    Outdoor switch - -35f - +130f

I thought about the thermal switch, but hope to find equipment that doesn't require additional items. I've also thought about a shade cover for it and will likely implement that. Thanks.

    Outdoor switch - -35f - +130f

Cheaper the better. I see some from Tycon that include PoE for around $300, but don't really need it to provide PoE. The ToughSwitches are only -15f. Sadly, I know we'll get below that, at least outside the box. And, unless the switch runs warm, that's going to be an issue. (and if it does...

    Outdoor switch - -35f - +130f

I need a switch to go inside an outdoor, weatherproof box near the middle of Michigan. The box will get full sun exposure pretty much all day, so I estimate the temp inside the box to get to around 130f. In the winter we can hit around -35f. This can be a simple, unmanaged switch. More info...

Suggestions for Small Business network, filtering, etc

Zywall is another player in the game and comes in at a lower cost, but from what I see add-ons are still subscriptions, right? Is this better than a FortiGate? Block pretty much everything for guests and require a Acceptable Use Policy. I'd also like to provide some king of captive portal...

    Blocking P2P

I've spent a ton of time reading all over about blocking P2P traffic. I have a client who received a notice that someone on their network was sharing out illegal content. So, now I need to find a way to stop that from happening again. From what I've read it may be impossible to really make this...

Suggestions for Small Business network, filtering, etc

Thought about that. Can I then separate out the two wireless networks in scope and permissions? If it's a simple AP, I don't know that WHS will know what devices are on the guest network.

Suggestions for Small Business network, filtering, etc

Advice, please. I set up a small business here with Windows Home Server, an ASUS RT-N66U, and a small unmanaged switch. They have a very large area to cover with wireless and that ASUS does it perfectly whereas their previous router only covered about 1/2 the area. There are about 8-10...

    Log Connected Machines

Helpful and might be an option, but really hoping not to have to change firmware. It's a business device and we'd rather not mess with warranty and support. Now they're talking about the possibility of a UTM device. If it can't be done with the stock firmware, I'll see how this shakes out...

    Log Connected Machines

Is there a way on an RT-N66U to log IP address leases? I want to be able to track what machine was online at a given time and track it to MAC address or computer name. Also, is there any way to set some kind of notification if someone hogs bandwidth? The short version is someone was doing...

Does RT-N66U have a real time clock? (trying to read system log)

I've seen the same issues with timestamps and wondered as well. Look forward to hearing if anyone knows what's going on here.

    LAN - Ping timeouts 1 in ~300-400

That's reassuring. This network has had many troubles and I'm preparing it for some big changes including a dedicated server. I want to be sure everything is reliable before I change anything. I was called in and found many drops wired incorrectly, multiple unmanaged switches, etc. Since I'm...

    LAN - Ping timeouts 1 in ~300-400

I'm seeing 1 ping timeout in 300-400 pings on LAN. Simple network with a single unmanged switch, DSL modem/router, 4 machines. I'm pinging from machines to the router and from 3 of the machines to 1 of them. I'm seeing no losses to the router, but see 1 ping timeout in about 300-400 between a...

Best practices: Small Business network, lots of clients, no dedicated server

Not sure this is the right place for this thread, but here goes. I need to set up a small business that has at any time about 20-30 devices connected to their network. They have no dedicated server on which to run DHCP, so it has to be in the ISP provider's gateway or in the wireless router...

    Low-Use cable verifier

That same company makes and NF-868 and NF-838. Any comments on those? looks like they add some features while keeping the costs down.

    Low-Use cable verifier

Very helpful You guys have been very helpful. I'm not looking at this as a living, but as a consultant for small businesses I often have to verify or install a few cable runs, up to ~15 and only do this a few times each year. So far I've used software to test throughput, but that's a bit...
