Something else you may want to consider is if you want the system/boot drives to be in a RAID, I didn't use FreeNAS because it cannot have redundant ZFS system drives, whereas NexentaStor can, not sure about Eon. -

This really does depend on what you are doing with it, I'm running a D525 Atom and I have never seen it over 25% running NexentaStor, might be more with FreeNAS, but if you just using it as a NAS then an Atom should be fine. -

Last I checked, the boot drive for FreeNAS cannot be ZFS so you can't create a ZFS "syspool" mirror. This was the reason I didn't choose FreeNAS for mine. You probably don't need a lifetime warranty, it will either fail or you will voluntarily replace it before 5 years, but I have found that... -

I presume you mean RAID-Z2 (equivalent to RAID6). Yes, 512e (512 byte emulation) as opposed to 4kn (4 kilobyte native) is the issue here. As GregN said though, these Hitachis are 512 byte native disks, so the only issue you will have is with addressing more than 2.19TB in the partition table... -
