Edimax WAP1750 & CAP1200 Pro APs Band Steering

The Edimax tech support says this feature will be supported with the new FW.

Is RADIUS the same as Hotspot?

Network authentication against a RADIUS server is more secured because the authentication is in the form of a username AND password both of which are unique. Therefore, it's akin to 2-factor authentication that is offered by the likes of Gmail.com and Outlook.com. One thing I am confused about...

Is RADIUS the same as Hotspot?

What is the relationship between a RADIUS server and running a Hotspot? Doesn't a hotspot package solution have a RADIUS server at its heart? In other words, if I decide to use an Edimax CAP1200 as the controller for a bunch of APs that support RADIUS for authentication, even APs from other...

Edimax WAP1750 & CAP1200 Pro APs Band Steering

Do they have band steering? It's a very useful feature. With it, even though there are 2 signals of 2.4 and 5GHz, the clients only see one SSID because the AP chooses the better of the two signal to associate.

    AoE

Anyone here have seen an ATA over Ethernet box in action? I have been reading about it and it seems too good to be true. Networking over cheap Ethernet without the overhead cost of TCP/IP. It looks like the only company that sells AoE boxes is Coraid. Given that AoE is an open standard and has...

    Netgear FVS318N

What role does DDNS like dyndns.com play in this? Do you know of any VPN gear personally that does the reconnect consistently based on the WAN IP change detection and then auto-correction to the DDNS host? The Netgear FVS318N has a lot of good reviews, but nowhere I can find where people...

    Netgear FVS318N

Does this apply to the Netgear FVS318N specifically? How about setting up a site-to-site connection? The same applies to the dynamic WAN IP?

    Netgear FVS318N

In a recent review for this SMB wireless router, it is mentioned that IPSec and SSL VPN work fine. Do any of you have first hand knowledge that the VPN tunnel can still be established with a WAN connection that has dynamic IP with DDNS? Or does the router require static public WAN IP for the VPN...

VPN for remote access (iPad friendly)

I can confirm that PPTP protocol works OK on IPhone iOS5. I use the PPTP VPN package that comes with the latest version of the Synology DiskManager. It works like a charm. Very easy to setup. Turn it on in the Synology NAS and do a port forward in the gateway router.

How To Use a Router To Add Network Ports

With Method Two, can computers of the network 192.168.199.x share files and printers with those in the 192.168.3.x network? I have a feeling that the PCs of the downstream router can see those of the upstream's, but not the other way around because the uptream's PCs will hit the WAN port of the...

Looking for a UNIX based NAS

Considering all the NAS solutions offered these days, I have yet found a NAS box that runs on UNIX. The only exception is FreeNAS but its development is slow. Sure it's free and does what it claims, but it lacks important features that I want. Is there any other NAS solutions out there that...

    Which NAS do you use?

Before getting into dedicated files servers such as NASes, I had always used Windows as my file servers. Then I had to build a file server for a mixed network of Macs and Windows machines. Files created by these Macs that were stored on a Windows server sometimes got corrupted. I was desperate...
