AP/Router for my standalone router in a small house?

....I'd vouch for the UAP-AC Series...I swapped my ASUS AC68U (served in AP-mode) for one UAP-AC-LR and it it works flawlessly with better range. Support of multiple SSIDs either guest/non-guest works as well, even though these are simple APs, not Routers. I swapped as more and more wireless...

Advice on wifi in a well wired apartment

I was only referring to the wireless range these things cover...these are not Routers, these are Access Points, nothing else. The UAP-AC-LR (sorry, typo above :-) is the long range variant, see...

Advice on wifi in a well wired apartment

...your best option would be to leave SoHo equipment and go for Ubiquiti unifi APs, like the UAP-AC or UAP-AC-lite....although being enterprise grade items, they are not expensive. As you already have ethernet in the rooms, go for a POE Switch to power the AP(s). Handoff between APs is controled...

New here and looking for some advice

...sorry, but I need to ask if you are comparing the same base units ... 150mbps wireless is too close to 13MBps . ...and you were using the same phone for testing both routers, weren't you? If you did set the same SSIDs on the At&T and the ASUS, delete the WLAN entry in the phone first...

rt-ac68u Guest Wireless in AP not restricting access to LAN

...just be aware that UniFi APs are Enterprise stuff, not SoHo. You need to run the separate controller software (the APs have no Web-UI, just a basic CLI) to set them up. If you intend to employ more than one AP in your home and use some more advanced features (like "seamless handover"), then...

rt-ac68u Guest Wireless in AP not restricting access to LAN

....I hate to say that, but I today sold my used AC68U for the price of the new UniFi UAP AC-LR o_O

rt-ac68u Guest Wireless in AP not restricting access to LAN

actually I don't know, as I can't look inside...the AP only has a minimal UI. But, although I have a VLAN capable Switch and Main Router, the guest setup in the UniFi APs involve nothing of the other components. All you need to do is create the SSID and check the mark for it to be of a guest...

rt-ac68u Guest Wireless in AP not restricting access to LAN

...actually, Ubiquiti's UniFi AC APs can do that just fine. I ran into the same problem a couple of weeks ago with my AC68U...it can be done, but you'll need to apply some manual VLAn tweaks. Now I switched to an UniFi UAP AC-LR and the controller software lets you configure SSIDs with a guest...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

...I can confirm that for the AC68U, as I am running mine as an AP....WAN will work fine as a fifth LAN port. Just don't get confused when looking at the info from the System Log UI, which will state " WAN is down", which is true from a software point of view when running in AP mode, even when...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

...yeah, I noticed that, but did not link these to the symptoms on my side. I'll think I linger araound with the old reveison for a while, monitoring how 25E6 is going to turn out until I upgrade again.

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

...I am back to 23E4 as all my internet radio devices developed problems with 25E1. They were able to connect to WiFi but couldn't reach the internet radio services....all other devices, like tablets, phones and laptops were doing fine though. Running my AC68U in AP-Mode. Edit: .and yes, I...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

...OK, this is what I was able to bring up via the forum search and this thread kind of sums it up for me: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/access-point-mode-guest-network.30532/#post-240536 Looks like I need to fiddle with a lot of scripts with uncertainty of success or move to another FW...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

...thanks John and @Wisiwyg...will have to try my search-fu then. I already do have a switch and multi-WAN router, both VLAN capable. I'd actually prefer to transport guest and non-guest over different VLANs and assign different IP nets as well....will see how to do that. What is strange though...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

OK, maybe this is not specific to John's fork but I am using it ever since and really can't remember what the standard or other merlin FWs look like. ;) I am using my AC68U in AP-mode...but still it offers to enable the guest-wifi networks in the UI. So, what is the use? OK, I know the use case...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

Hi John, yes, i guess so. No, that install is about 1.5years old...started with the fork from scratch aqt that time...works like a charm. I noticed this behaviour the last time when I visited and the link was down. The normal way of fixing the link for the owner was a (hard-)reboot...this was...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

...just came across a strange effect with a N66U (running E20.x) in repeater mode. I installed this box at a friends house, connecting via the 5GHz to the main router and providing I-Net to clients over the 2.4GHz link. Sometimes the N66 looses connection to the main router and would not...

Advantage of Tri-Band Routers as Wireless Bridges

IMHO, as long as all wireless interfaces are bridged together with the ETH-Switch instead of being on different rooted networks, all packets will travel through all (bridged) interfaces.
