    Was my ASUS RT-N66U attacked/hacked

Hi, A day or so ago I got up and discovered that every site I tried to go was directed to my router via 192.168.1.1/admin. That is if I typed in http://Google.com it sent me to 192.168.1.1/admin. I power the router off and when I restored everything appears normal. But, when I look at the...

Suggestion for a good POE access point?

Hi, I want to improve the coverage in my house. I have one POE AP (WAP 321) downstairs under a cabinet and want to add another AP upstairs. The issue is it will be in plain sight and the WAP 321 is kind of ugly. Also, I prefer one that works simultaneously on both 2.4 and 5 GHz, but that...

    Which 16 port switch?

Hi, We are just finishing up a set of ethernet runs throughout the house. These will all tie back to a single switch so I need a device with 16 ports. At my office I used Cisco 16 port units and they have been reliable and fast. But it looks like Cisco has gotten out of the unmanaged switch...

    Rural Wifi

A friend of mine and I extended a LAN between two hangars using a couple of cheap (30 each) directional antennas I got off eBay. We were able to get very strong signals at about 300 feet. We put the antennas on two short metal poles and mounted them atop each of the hangars. Of course, we...

increasing wireless coverage with 2 routers.

I have multiple Wifi APs (actually routers) in my house. I have them set up the same except I ensure they are on different non-overlapping channels. Prior to doing this I had issue with the APs interfering with each other causing all sorts of issues for my clients (PCs, tablets, phones). To...

hiding access point and other gear

Is there any issue with attenuation having the wifi gear in a cabinet? That is, if you open the cabinet how large is the change in signal strength?

hiding access point and other gear

Thanks Steve, I am looking at Access points. I am leaning toward an in wall/ceiling device since I have access to run speaker wires, electrical for the lights, etc. I will probably have the electrician add a outlet in between a couple of beams. The only downside of going to the ceiling...

hiding access point and other gear

Hi, We are remodeling our kitchen and adjoining family room and I want to take the opportunity to do something about the wireless situation. The family room and kitchen are downstairs and I plan on running CAT 6 down from the upstairs where the cable modem and switch are located. I am...

Need help with Access Point setup

Hi, I have the following setup and am experiencing clients disconnecting and reconnecting very often. This is problem primarily is with Android clients (Nexus 7 tablet, Droid DNA, and Samsung Galaxy S3), but does occur with other clients (MacBook, IPhone). Upstairs where cable comes into...

What is proper sequence for cable modem, tv, and MOCA1000?

Does anyone know the proper way (ie spliter types, etc) to connect a cable modem, MCA1001, and a TV. I was surprised I could not find a diagram going over this case in the setup or user guide.

    Moca kills Comcast DTA box

I thought so too, but a little reading said not for cable. On the attenuator, I assume the thought is reduce the signal strength coming out of the MOCA box so it does not interfere as much with the TV signal? Anyway I will get a couple. It looks like they are pretty cheap at radio shack.

    Moca kills Comcast DTA box

Thanks for the info. I will see if I can find the utility. I this something on a disk? I did not see any switches on the units, Netgear MCA 1001. I think it is V1. FWIW, A DTA is a cheap ($2/mo) box for basic digital service.

    Moca kills Comcast DTA box

HI, We just were forced to get a Comcast DTA box to get any channels on one of our TVs. As soon as I got the box I noticed that the picture seemed a little off. More testing reveals that about a third of the channels (ex 2 works, 3 does not, 10 and 11 do not, but 12 does) do not work. If I...

    MoCA, Powerline, or Wifi?

I am using MOCA to link my routers on different floors. My original plan was to run CAT 6, but that would require drilling through floors, installing outlets, pulling cable, etc. I figured I would try a $150 experiment first with MOCA. To my surprise it has worked very well. There are...

    External Antenna for RT-N66U

I used the wired + access point method with great success. In my case I use cable TV as the WAN link (Comcast) and as the wiring (via MOCA) between the routers. The remote access point is my old WNDR 3700.

ASUS RT-N66U Dark Knight Dual-Band Wireless-N900 Gigabit Router Reviewed

Did anyone upgraded from a WNDR 3700? If so, how does the range compare? I find my 3700 range is a bit lacking and had to buy two to cover my house. I am wondering if I can by with one N66U.
