Hi,

I have the following setup and am experiencing clients disconnecting and reconnecting very often. This is problem primarily is with Android clients (Nexus 7 tablet, Droid DNA, and Samsung Galaxy S3), but does occur with other clients (MacBook, IPhone).

Upstairs where cable comes into house.
  • Motorola cable modem
  • Asus N66u Dark Knight Router (2.4 and 5 GHz with different SSIDs), WAN port to cable modem, LAN port to switch
  • 8 port gigabit switch connected to router, local system, and Moca
  • Dlink Moca

Downstairs
  • Dlink Moca to switch
  • 8 port gigabit switch connected to Tivo, XBox, Denon Receiver, and Netgear Router
  • Netgear WNDR 3700 router configured as AP (routing disabled, dhcp disabled, SSIDs are the same as upstairs (2.4 and 5 GHz with difference SSIDs) )

I can watch the devices drop connection and then reestablish connection every few seconds. To the user this appears as being able to navigate in the browser to a page and then no being able to navigate to a link on the page. Very frustrating.

This issue occurs even when the client is 2 meters from the downstairs router/AP with a large difference in wifi strength (> 20 dB).

Any ideas?

Recommended Changes

Use different SSIDs for the upstairs and downstairs APs. Also put them on Different channels.

Users will just have to learn for a good web experience they need to connect to the AP with the strongest signal as their device is designed to do this automatically.
