Official firmware won't spin down HDD attached to USB

I have a AC68U and Merlin used to be fine to spin down HDD connected to USB. Now I switched to Aimesh firmware and same HDD keep spinning. Is there anyway to enable HDD spin down? Thank you.

    AC68U vs AC3100 vs AC86U wifi testing

Thanks for response. BTW, I found channels ~156 has much better range than 36/40 etc. Maybe it depends on house layout.

    AC68U vs AC3100 vs AC86U wifi testing

Did you check which channel you used? That plays very important role in my test.

    ASUS RT-AC86U vS RT-AC88U

So 88U has link-aggregation and 8 LAN ports. Otherwise, 86U is better.

    RT-AC3100 vs RT-AC88u vs RT-AC3200

I suspect the reason is extra RAM, 512MB vs 256MB. Can you elaborate what is lacking with R8000?

USB 3.0 Impact on 2.4Ghz Wifi is Real

If you need speed bump, try to overclock the SoC.

USB 3.0 Impact on 2.4Ghz Wifi is Real

USB 3.0 read/write speed is limited by SoC speed, so 1.4Ghz is faster than 800Mhz. The impact is 2.4Ghz signal strength, not USB read/write speed.

    RT-AC68U / RT-AC68P / RT-AC1900 / RT-AC1900P

I need to put NAS to family room, behind the audio rack, where router is placed. I don't have LAN setup, that's why I am not keep the NAS running..... Thanksk for suggestion, I will do that, if I find anything wrong :)

    RT-AC68U / RT-AC68P / RT-AC1900 / RT-AC1900P

I am only using it for occasional movie/music sharing, only 2-3 times a week. I think router is ok for that kind of light duty work. I have a DIY NAS with a i5 3570K CPU and that's an overkill for this kind of job. I am too lazy to upgrade the HDD's which has 5 2TB's. So it is convenient for...

USB 3.0 Impact on 2.4Ghz Wifi is Real

The day before when I did site survey, and was surprised to find out that all my neighbor's router were gone, I thought it was due to bad weather. After 3 days router still sees nothing but 3 weak 5Ghz AP's. I am living in a house, I can see about 10 weak 2.4Ghz AP's with signal strength around...

    RT-AC68U / RT-AC68P / RT-AC1900 / RT-AC1900P

I agree with this. When I copy/write big files with HDD attached to router, CPU usage is 100% for both cores, overclock would make the speed faster. So at least for AC68U/P, USB speed bottleneck is SoC speed.

    [solved] spin idle time

Glad it worked out for you. Actually, I use the Seagate Dashboard, and set spin down time there directly, no need to edit the code.

    [solved] spin idle time

FYI. I have Seagate USB HDD's and I can set spin down with Seagate dashboard in HD firmare.

    RT-AC3100 vs RT-AC88u vs RT-AC3200

Probably you can add RAM size and CPU speed, which matter to some people who run VNC.

Upgrade from Ac68u to AC5300 worth it?

I am using solution one, and the problem is, while 5Ghz signal is good inside the house, it is weak outside, my phone won't pickup the 5Ghz wifi. But if I connect to 2.4Ghz, then it is not smart enough to connect to 5Ghz when I get in. I tried the same SSID and it does not work well. Solution...

    RT-AC3100 vs RT-AC88u vs RT-AC3200

I just downgraded from R8000 (Netgear version of AC3200) to AC68U. I would say, AC68U is good enough although 2 5Ghz bands sound better. I don't see any reason to get MIMU router, I think it is half cooked technology and whether it would fly is a big question. If OP has a lot, I mean a lot, of...

    RT-AC68U (former TM-AC1900)

your HD might be (partially) corrupted and router won't accept it, it does not mean all files are bad, but router is more picky than PC. I have seen this before. Actually I just RMA a 4TB 2.5" USB HDD, which has a lot of files that are corrupted and I cannot copy out, and it gives weird click...
