My scheduled scan also reverts to "Disable", going back as far as I can remember with this router. I'm using ext4 on my drive.

Some problem here on RT-N16.
Starting a Restart Scan on Disk Utility, my Generic Flash Disk is unmounted and then scanned, but still freezed at 90% remounting disk and the USB icon become red.
Starting e2fsck from shell the file system (ext3) is correct.
Same problem reported by tommyv2 with scheduled scans, always revert to "Disable".

Drat. I had high hopes for that because I've always preferred 192.168.0.1, for reasons I no longer remember.

I've switched back to the default 192.168.1.1 and rebooted everything.

The router pages still hang for me. It takes about 5-10 clicks on buttons before it happens. Which buttons doesn't seem to matter.

I'm on 43.

Bruce.

What AV are you using? If it's ESET (Nod32 or Smart Security) you need to exclude your router's IP from protocol filtering (under Web and Email in the advanced settings).

Hi there,

This is my first post here on this great forum. First, I want to thank you Merlin, for all great work you've done for this routers. For me, your work and this great community was a strong reason to choose and buy Asus RT-N66U (1 year ago). Also, based on this consideration i've recommended Merlin supported Asus routers to friends.

On topic: yesterday, i have upgraded my RT-N66U from 374.43 to 376.45. Upgrade went smooth, i have also cleared nvram settings and manually setup my network from scratch (wireless setup, dhcp reservations, port forwarding rules, openvpn, etc). Everything is working great, wireless range and performance seems to be the same. Wireless and wired download tests show pretty much same numbers. For me, the security fixes on openssl are more important than anything. This router is my gateway for internet, so it must be secure before anything else.

I want to mention that I do not use any of the USB apps of this router (i have a nas for this), so for people reading this post with similar network setup, my advice is to go ahead and upgrade without any worries :)

This is a long-time known issue. I suspect it went under Asus's radar.

Run an actual speed test using a tool such as Lanbench. Uplink and downlink speeds aren't necessarily the same, which would explain the speed difference.
By any chance, do you know where I can find iperf for arm binaries? At the moment I lack a Linux box to compile iperf sources myself.

Thanks.

Benchmarking wifi performance should not be done by running an endpoint on the router, since the router's weak CPU will have an impact on results. Instead run Lanbench on two separate computers, one over wifi, one over Ethernet.

First of all - thank you RMerlin for your hard work and contribution!

I just moved from 376.44 => 376.45, but I was forced to move back to 44.
With 45 the clients do not have Internet access (e.g. no ping to hosts/IP). The router has Internet access (e.g. ping from the network tools to host/IP is successful).

My setup is RT-AC68U with Huawei E3276 LTE modem/dongle plugged to USB3 port.

After I flashed back to 44, clients regained Internet access.

I compared the boot logs from 44 and 45. Most noticeable difference was this section only on 45. (Note! Timestamps have been removed).

Ran checkdsk and wow, it found a lot of issues with my hd. Thanks for the head up rmerlin

Edit: now the router doesn't see the hd or won't load it. :(

Edit edit lol: enabled USB interference setting and it came back online. Will try to flip that back off when wife is done with her test for class, she didn't like that quick reset lol

Moved the modem issue discussion to a separate topic, as it was getting way off-topic for this thread.

After a long day with ASUS phone support as a tech named Isaak can confirm that Firmware 3.0.0.4.376.1663 is buggy there looking into this , hope new firmware soon.

thank god :)

Ended up having to go to the fork versions with the security updates.

Not for anything Merlin did but the issues with the new code asus has added.

It looking like the harddrive issue goes deeper then expected and involves the linux kernel they are using.

The Wi-Fi range has decreased if I compare it with the standard Asus firmware. I did a factory reset before and after upgrading.

After 7 days uptime I get this in log from dropbear:
Aug 23 12:10:50 dropbear[28072]: Couldn't set SO_PRIORITY (Bad file descriptor)

SO_PRIORITY
Set the protocol-defined priority for all packets to be sent on this socket. Linux uses this value to order the networking queues: packets with a higher priority may be processed first depending on the selected device queueing discipline. For ip(7), this also sets the IP type-of-service (TOS) field for outgoing packets. Setting a priority outside the range 0 to 6 requires the CAP_NET_ADMIN capability.

CAP_NET_ADMIN
  • Perform various network-related operations:
  • interface configuration;
  • administration of IP firewall, masquerading, and accounting
  • modify routing tables;
  • bind to any address for transparent proxying;
  • set type-of-service (TOS)
  • clear driver statistics;
  • set promiscuous mode;
  • enabling multicasting;

I borrowed a PCE-AC68 for testing purposes but I can connect to my AC56U using 5GHz band. Only 2.5GHz band connection is working. I can see both SSIDs using card utility.

I tried with several version of PCE-AC68 drivers, including the latest one (2.0.8.8), and with various 5GHz band settings on the router (including factory defaults) but no result.

What can be wrong?

LE: forgot to mention the OS - Windows 8.1 x64

LE1: Resolved by downgrading router to 374.43_2 and upgrading again to 376.45. Kind of clueless here because I reseted 376.45 to factory defaults already with no results...

LE2: Back to square one after running card utility in order to enable beamforming (was the shorter way than going to device properties...) Again, just 2.5GHz band is working for connections...

There is a bug in web ui of 376.45 for RT-N16

N16's build comes without openvpn support but in 376.45 there is the "OpenVPN Client tab" with all settings for two client instances. None of those settings work.

OPenvpn isn't included in RT-N16 build. You have to use entware for that.
