In 'WAN - Virtual Server / Port Forwarding' I opened up both port 20 and 21 but yet nothing happened.

LAN FTP link: ftp://192.168.1.1 works obviously but Internet FTP link: ftp://plzwork.no-ip.org does not!

When I try to connect with an ftp-client it says:

STATUS:> [2013-03-31 19:09:57] Resolving host name plzwork.no-ip.org...
STATUS:> [2013-03-31 19:09:57] Host name plzwork.no-ip.org resolved: ip = 66.88.174.87.
STATUS:> [2013-03-31 19:09:57] Connecting to FTP server... plzwork.no-ip.org:21 (ip = 66.88.174.87)...
ERROR:> [2013-03-31 19:10:18] The connection failed due to an error or timeout.

Ideas anyone? :)

You are trying to connect to external IP from the network other than your home LAN, correct? That is computer you are trying to connect from is not behind the same RT-N66U.

I'm trying to connect the usb-hdd that is plugged in to router. So you're saying i must find the IP of the usb-hdd? How do i figure it out? I thought my laptops ip = usb-hdd ip?

From the FAQ:

Note: Do not use the port range 20:21 for an FTP server if the AiDisk service on the router has been enabled.

By enabling port forwarding of 20 and 21 in 'WAN - Virtual Server / Port Forwarding' you are telling the router to forward incoming connections from the WAN on those ports to a computer with ip address 192.168.1.1, which won't work as the router has that internal address, not any computer on your LAN ports. It works internally because the router doesn't have to forward the connections; it handles them itself.

Solved by doing what ASUS says not to do lol
