New Around Here
This one is a weird one...

Some clients are disconnecting every so often from my Network, there is no pattern, besides disconnecting for a brief period of time and reconnecting again. This is my very first post so I'm not sure what other type of information to provide, but I'm more than happy to supply.

Some devices have a power saving feature, even when not on battery, that will power off a WiFi or Ethernet. Windows is infamous for this.
I'm not sure what other type of information to provide
  • What type of network?
  • What type of devices? Operating systems?
  • Are they connected to a specific website?
  • What's the environment?

Not sure what you mean by "type of network".
This is affecting primarily iOS devices. I'm having issues with my iPhones/iPads. (This is happening when the user is on the device, not while the device is sleeping)
All services are affected.
Not sure what you mean by "environment". This is a home network.

    • So indoors
    • Single floor?
    • Issue occurs in every room of home?
  • Single SSID or more?
  • IOS devices showing strong signal everywhere in home?

Great questions!

Single SSID, broadcasting both 2.4+5Ghz
iOS devices show strong signal everywhere in the home. They have been working without a problem for the last year or so. No changes have been made to the RT-AC3100.

  • Does any one client disconnect more than once a day?
    • If so, how are they using the device at the time? Games, web browsing...
  • Any location dependencies?
    • Bedroom vs living room vs kitchen, better or worse?
  • Check Syslog of router for an entry that coincides with a disconnect
They have been working without a problem for the last year or so.
  • When did users first started noticing this issue?
    • Was it shortly after an IOS update?
    • Were there any electrical devices installed or repaired?
  • Do you have a Mac? If so, please install an app like "WiFi Explorer" to determine if another device is competing for one of your WiFi channels. There are similar apps for Windows.
