When I update my RT-AX88U router from firmware version 3004.388.5_0 to 3004.388.6_0 it stops connecting to the internet via the ISP provided modem. If I reinstall 3004.388.5_0 the internet connects and works fine. I repeated this a couple of times this past week.

My location is Shanghai, China; not sure if there might be something in 3004.388.6_0 that tries to connect to a China blocked function (?),

I attach the log (txt file) of todays time when I did the firmware upgrade / downgrade, in case that helps.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions (I am not a tech wiz, so make them simple).

What happends if you reset the router to factory defaults with 388.6 firmware?

I should have included that detail. I did reset the router to factory defaults twice while it was using the 388.6 firmware. This did not solve the internet connection problem.
Thanks for the response.

Have you done an Electrical Reset of BOTH Modem (first) & Router?

Code:
Jan 26 14:22:58 dhcp_client: bound 192.168.71.62/255.255.255.0 via 192.168.71.1 for 86400 seconds.
Is this router behind another router? It has a private WAN IP.

Hello John, If by "electrical reset" you mean turn both modem and router off and then on, then yes, I turned both off and then started the modem first (allowed it to completely start and show it was connected to the service) and then the Asus router. This did not solve the problem.

What is interesting, and frustrating, is that this has never happened before when upgrading the firmware (Asus Merlin). Using 388.5 everything runs normally. Install 388.6 and the internet stops working (local network appears to be fine and all lights are green, but the internet connection does not work and the Asus light is red).

Reinstall 388.5 and all is fine and internet connection works.

Hello dave14305. Yes, the ISP service modem has a wireless router. A few years ago, when I first installed the RT-AX88U, there were constant conflicts. Changing to the private WAN IP address (192.168.50.1 rather than the typical 192.168.0.1) immediately solved the problem and has worked fine ever since.

This was never an issue with the 388.5 firmware, so I assume it shouldn't be an issue with the 388.6 firmware. (?)
