Hi, I am looking for help picking a router and I don't exactally know what to look for. I would like a router that can connect to my DSL (2 mps) but also connect to my cell phone if I turn on my Hotspot. I would like for the router to have printer and storage sharing (usb 2.0 now, but 3.0 for future if possible) and replaceable anteanna would be awesome. I would also like to have an easy interface (smart phone app is a plus) if possible (mildly tech savvy). Thanks in advance. Bruce

P.s. is the connection to the cell phone bridging or AP?

Cradlepoint has a few devices that might meet your needs - they're a specialist in this area.

(I just eWasted an older Cradlepoint CTR that would meet your needs exactly)

i think the asus dsl-ac68u would meet your needs

as its

dsl

has android phone tethering

both printer and storage sharing

is already usb 3

has app

works great

Cradlepoint does it better - and it's smart to split the modem from the router ;)

just suggesting a device that will do everything required all in one unit , imho there is little difference performance wise being an all in 1 apart from no 3rd party support

But Asus doesn't do this very well - it's a checkbox feature for them...

Cradlepoint - this is their main stuff...

the 3g and android tether bit it does pretty dam good as i have a dsl-ac68u at my daughters place using 3g dongle and she swaps to andriod tether when the credit runs out on the 3g dongle

The printer and scanner sharing on routers isnt that great. If you want a truely driverless and flawless print and scanner sharing than consider going the more difficult route of using cups and xsane. This can be done even with a raspberry pi with plenty of tutorials. The challenge is finding one that has both cups and xsane in the tutorial and is recent as some are outdated and dont work anymore. Or you can get an expensive network printer which supports scanning via browser.

They're actually not that expensive - my little HP OfficeJet 4620 was 89 bucks at Costco - does a nice job, and the only complaint I have is that it eats $60 ink packs like crazy..
