    RT-AX56U EOL question.

So the RT-AC5300's on the chopping block soon, eh? I'll have to start thinking about which router to migrate to. Right now, mine's not doing WiFi, just routing, and's been doing ok on it. Sometimes needs a kick..

Recommended Asus router for a small, 3br home?

Hey folks, Mate moving into a new house soon, and is looking for an OK router which isn't going to break the bank. I like the Asus routers 'cos they can run Merlin.. and even when they don't.. they seem to get more love from Asus, than the Nighthawks do from Netgear.. and then the rest seem to...

    RT-AX56U EOL question.

Heh.. sounds like Apple.. Always avoid v1 of a new architecture with them :)

    RT-AX56U EOL question.

I wonder if it's an architecture thing - do they both use the same architecture? Was the one still being continued perhaps bulk sold to ISP customers?

    Expected differences in Speedtest results?

Oh, for sure.. I understand that accessing something on the internet is only as fast as the slowest link in the chain, that a lot of larger sites engage global CDNs to accelerate site delivery, and that I shouldn't expect line speed to everything. It's just when I see differences of a half order...

    Expected differences in Speedtest results?

Superloop / 3BEN Mix of morning and evening.. This is Samknows / ACCC monitoring dashboard over 6 months with average time of day reading.. I've not seen other tests, besides Speedtest CLI on my linux workstation, reflect these numbers. That said, over past 30 days... Am thinking perhaps...

    Expected differences in Speedtest results?

Ahh.. ~300Mbps expected for "on device" on RT-AC5300.. got it.. thanks! As for my internet, it's NBN FttN (Passive optical fibre network managed by government last mile carrier, NBNCo, with my ISP connecting to the other end at one of the NBN points of interconnect)... so it's not HFC. I have...

    Expected differences in Speedtest results?

Desktop machine is Linux, not Windows. Wired with ethernet, no Via wired ethernet. HW flow? Maybe? Is that the NAT Acceleration option (which is on)? Or do you mean QoS which is off right now.

    Expected differences in Speedtest results?

Nominally, my ISP provides me with a 1000/50 connection, but this isn't guaranteed. The uplink, no matter how I test it, is within 4Mbps to this 50. However, their download is only suggested to be an average of 600Mbps, and the current plans they're offering on their site suggest closer to...

    Smartphone Identification Question

Where I have devices on my network that I'm not sure what they are (and wireshark oui lookup fails), I'll run a tcpdump (installed from entware) on br0 interface against that device's IP.. Eg. tcpdump -i br0 -X host 192.168.x.y I've identified LED strip controllers, Amazon devices, game...

Unable to access router by SSH or WinSCP after changing to AP mode

Might be a stupid question.. but after switching modes on your Asus router, did you check the "Admin" tab to see that SSH access with a password was still enabled?

Internet Speed page (AdaptiveQoS_InternetSpeed.asp) setting iframe height too small

Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:99.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/99.0 is main browser. I'm still on 20.04 LTS and haven't moved to 22.04 yet as 22.04 drops support for nvidia-340 and nouveau has been unrealiable in my past experiences with it (yeah, I'm rockin' a Core i7...

Internet Speed page (AdaptiveQoS_InternetSpeed.asp) setting iframe height too small

Hey folks, Have noticed that when using Firefox 99.0 or Chromium 102.0.5005.27 on my Linux desktop, even after flushing cache/cookies/site data etc., that the "internet_speed.html" iframe loaded within "AdaptiveQoS_InternetSpeed.asp" page has a height of only 150 pixels. If I open the frame in...

News Trend Micro: Cyclops Blink Sets Sights on Asus Routers

Is there somewhere that explains what Cyclops Blink is deployed to Asus routers? Asus says in their own security advisory that they've "released new firmware that included more security measures to block malware", specifically in relation to Cyclops Blink...

    Diagnosing frequent dropouts

I've contacted Samknows, and got the following response: So.. it seems like I can treat the very short disconnection reports from Samknows monitoring appliance as just UDP packet loss. Still a nifty feature for having a client-side idea of outages, though it sounds like they have some tuning...
