If I run the RT-AC86U in Access Point(AP) mode can I still use VPN to IP port?

The cable is a Cat 5e External cable, but it is generic. I am looking to make a more permanent connection to the cabin so will look for better cable and conduit. BTW Switch is on the other end and speed holding good at the moment.

Wifi Calling on this build keeps failing. I am on Three network and have been using Wifi calling with no problem connecting through my RT-AC86U. Many thanks, your link to the posting was exactly what I needed. I changed the subnet of the server and the port to be different from the client and all is working as expected with no dropped internet connections.

The only change I have made is by having VPN for Client I am not running a server. The UPNP problem is still there, if I turn UPNP on the router, the whole router comes to a standstill, and until I turn it off nothing works. This is why I am doing manual port forwarding.

Yes port forwarding is on, I have VPN running to the NAS, however if I try and access other ports to devices not on VPN they are blocked too.
