I moved it to the router and connected it via cable and it works great now. Even the wireless connection responds immediately. So dunno but this is it's final place so what ever is wrong does not matter.
Running this on Merlin's firmware. Next week I will be moving the Pi over by the router and it will be hardwired then. I'll just sit tight and see if that resolves this at that time. Thanks for input!

... and it still shows me in LA but suddenly streaming services see me as not in Mexico but if I run the same dedicated IP address on the VPN app then the streaming services work. www.whatismyip.com shows the same address each way and DNS testing shows Cloudflare. So why the heck does the router...
Might have fixed it. Changed the Accept DNS Configuration from Strict to Disabled and now everything seems to be happy. At least for the moment.
Update... ya it looks like that's fixed it. Not sure how it got changed but all better finally. Also not sure why that just impacted a few things...
Ya I have been too. This is just driving me nuts. I'm going to set it up from scratch on one of the other VPN selections on the router and configure it without looking at the current one. Maybe something got hosed that I'm just not seeing since the connection to the public one works.
