    Cisco 891FW

Note to anyone who orders one, Cisco does not install the PoE daughter card even when you buy the unit with it included. They also take 5 additional days to notify you it's on back order. It also does not have cisco express setup and you will need to do command line config. Once I get it all...

    Cisco 891FW

Just got it, first shock, no 8 inch external antennas, antennas are internal, we'll have to see how that works out considering the case is metal, no rack mount for this one I'm thinking. Looks like native PoE ports, no add on internal daughter card but 4 of the 8 ports are labeled PoE ports on...

Need to rework and improve my home WiFi

I remember those tubes, we had them in the frequency generators for our specom keyers on the subs.

Need to rework and improve my home WiFi

Interesting idea, I've built PC's in Desktop humidors and those big remote controlled cars. I always keep my networking stuff out of sight so I have not given that much thought.

    Some basic VLAN help

Don't know, never tried running a PC as a router. Should be an interesting nic configuration.

    Some basic VLAN help

The Linksys1900AC supports Vlans on it's 4 ethernet ports, I have not tried it or dug into it except in passing but just noted that it is there. If each of the three apartments has one wired port this might work, don't know how well the 1900 works with 4 possibly heavy users on it or what it's...

Need to rework and improve my home WiFi

What about mounting a good router on the wall and covering it with a picture or other artwork ? Cut a square in the ceiling, recess a box, mount router or AP in there and cover with cotton or other thin material, cotton should let it breathe, you could also recess it in a wall as well. Just...

    Looking for a new router

I firmly believe if you have a house and it's yours you should wire it for networking as well as coax for cable, it's a good investment. Friend of mine had a pipe leak in the wall so he has to open walls on two floors, I'm pulling cable this weekend while he has it open, a few all the way to the...

    Cisco 1921 and T1

Yes, needs a wic for a real T1. Question though, is the T-1 in there now in the room and what does it have and is it a real T-1 or is it a T1 over ethernet ?

    Monitoring multiple wireless networks

The T43 is a bit short in horse power. I kicked off two network watchers, one wired other wireless and pegged the CPU. we'll see how it does on an HP MT 3005 with a amd dual core as soon as I finish paving it over, doing the updates and adding two more nics.

    Monitoring multiple wireless networks

We have an avaya system, all cat6 rj45's. The wap happened to be in a spot where a POS/terminal and phone were for the maitre 'd, his podium, it got moved so I hung an AP there. In hind site I should have taken the phone jack out and just let it sit behind the wall plate out of sight. As far as...

    Monitoring multiple wireless networks

This is turning into issue, customer in restaurant plugged a WAP into a phone system jack, took a while to find. I now have 3 separate wireless networks here, all standalones connected to three cable modems, need to monitor them and keep track of connections. Running network watcher on my...
