    An alternative to the RT-AX86U

I'm currently switching from an all in one to using a wired router (RB5009UG+S+IN), switches and APs. What APs do you use? I was looking at Ubiquiti given that they seem cheaper than a lot of the more professional APs for wifi 6e (I even posted asking for benchmarks compared to the Asus...

How does a ubiquiti APs like the u6 enterprise compare to Asus routers like the GT-AXE11000

The main issue I have is that there's a lot of interference on 5ghz in my high rise apartment building so having access to 6ghz would help with that. I can use it as the backhaul to the one wifi ap I cannot wire to. Unfortunately Mikrotik doesn't have any wifi 6e devices yet. For the...

How does a ubiquiti APs like the u6 enterprise compare to Asus routers like the GT-AXE11000

I've been using Asus routers for a long time but since I now have a router for my home (a mikrotik RB5009UG+S+IN), I now realize that for wifi I only really need APs instead of a full blown router. Especially since configuring vlans on an asus router in AP mode is not super practical. But I...

Reliable smart uk multiplug with 6 sockets

Does anyone know a good reliable smart uk multiplug with 6 sockets over wifi that has a decent security profile and tracks power consumption of each devices? I found the TP-Link Kasa HS300 but that's only for US plugs and 110v. So, I'm hoping someone has a good recommendation

Disable physical Wifi button on GT-AX11000

I have a small child who delights in pressing buttons and has turned off wifi on my router a couple of times already. Is there any way to disable that button? Or assign another function to it that would be less debilitating than cutting wifi?

Asus Ai mesh mixing wired and wireless mesh

Well, so I tried looking into it, turns out that the coax connection in the kitchen leads directly to the building and is independent from all the other coax connections in the apartment. I was originally planning to try and see if I could just add a network cable through there but that also...

    RT-AX82U or RT-AX86S

And what are good VLAN capable access points?

    RT-AX82U or RT-AX86S

What would be a "non-toysRUs" router for a 2.5GbE capable network? I was looking at the ax86u as APs with aimesh because of the 2.5 GbE port (my main node is a GT-AX11000) but I'm curious about what you'd recommend or which other brand to look at instead of sticking with asus.

Asus Ai mesh mixing wired and wireless mesh

Thanks, I hadn't thought of this. I'm trying to search but I'm guessing MoCa being an international standard would work in any country (I'm based in HK) So if I understand correctly, having that AP would make the entire wifi network slower even if I'm not connected to that AP? I'm using that...

Asus Ai mesh mixing wired and wireless mesh

I live in a skyscrapper with steel reinforced concrete walls so I have both interferences from my neighbours downstairs and upstairs and also a very had time having wifi signal go through the walls of my apartment. I have an GT-AX11000, I'm planning to add 3 new access points. 2 of those will...

Passing optical fiber from one phone socket to another

I have my NAS, my media server and a qnap 10gbits switch at the place where the ONT is, At the other end of my apartment (33 feet away), I have my office, when I work in my office, I sometimes want to be able to access files quickly from my NAS. Currently wifi signal is very weak in my office...

Passing optical fiber from one phone socket to another

hmm, given the prices in hk, it'd cost me a lot of money to get someone to do it... So I'd rather try my luck (and learn new skills) before I end up paying 200+ usd to get someone to do it :)

Passing optical fiber from one phone socket to another

Thanks for the advice. Good idea, I'll do that. Any advice on the wiring question? a bit confused there :)

Passing optical fiber from one phone socket to another

I actually checked, and was told by the building management that the telephone wiring was removed, so this phone cable no longer connects at all to the exterior of the building or to anything. The internet connection is done through optical fiber that replaced the old phone line.

Passing optical fiber from one phone socket to another

Probably a strange question. I'm renting an apartment and there are some old fashioned phone/dsl sockets in the different rooms. I would like to pass some optical fiber cables through them to wire with 10gbps optical fiber cable two different rooms. I can get a cable and attach it to the...
