Then you really do something wrong. I have been using it for months and without problems between an RT-AC86U and RT-A86U. But also RT-AC68U and RT-AC68U at different locations. Is roaming on? smartconnect? turn that off. Perform a factory reset of both and reconnect step by step via WiFi or LAN...
Works fine with the alpha :) thank you for @RMerlin
@Gitsum,
Set both to factory reset. Then Merlin alpha on the main router and on the node the stock firmware. Then make an Aimesh connection over WiFi (you want that anyway?). Both routers must then stand side by side for the connection. Does...
@RMerlin,
Good to read that you are now testing with Aimesh support :) I have been using it for some time with the 'normal' Merlin firmware and the node with stock firmware. So I turned aimesh on manually via SSH. Has a lot been adjusted by you in this build? In other words, does it make sense...
You can enable and use AiMesh manually with Merlin. Just keep in mind that they do not provide support with problems. Here, however, it works great on a RT-AC86U :)

Apologies if it didn't happen that way.
@EmeraldDeer,
In this file I see dhcp-host with the MAC address and IP Addresses. (that is good)
