    Asuswrt-Merlin Ver. 380.58_0 upgrade

Thank you. Being unfamiliar with the ins and outs of routers I always worry about bricking it. Hence I avoid updating unless it is necessary. Reading the changlelogs I see security mentioned and that is why I considered updating this time. Is it possible to brick the router when doing these...

    Asuswrt-Merlin Ver. 380.58_0 upgrade

For my RT-AC68U, I downloaded the file RT-AC68U_384.4_2.zip and extracted the file RT-AC68U_384.4_2.trx which I attempted to upload. I received an error message which said it was unsuccessful and I should check the version. Thinking that the jump in version was to great I downloaded the file...

Can the RT-AC68U operate on a home LAN without a WAN connection?

Without throwing up errors? If it can but throws errors would the following suppress them: 1) Use telnet or go to http://192.168.1.1/Main_AdmStatus_Content.asp 2) Key in these commands: nvram set wanduck_down=1 ; 0 to turn warning on again nvram commit reboot The url just hung waiting for the...

Locked out of my shared USB

The 'client' is xubuntu file viewer and it inserts the domain name. I thought the routers hostname was RT-AC68U but that did not work. I checked /tmp/host on the router which said the host was HORUI (the USB), but this did not work as the domain name either. Perhaps the usb has to be mounted...

Locked out of my shared USB

Yes, I did use a reserved character and have edited it out of the password. In the router I must set a workgroup name and gave the same name as my LAN. If I don't insert a workgoup name I get an error message. In the password required popup seen when accessing the downloads folder the user...

Asus RT-AC68U router - USB ftp advice on security out of the box.

The guidance I found related the asuswrt firmware 3.0.0 if I remember correctly, not the current firmware. My apologies, I should have said firmware, not software.

Asus RT-AC68U router - USB ftp advice on security out of the box.

I will go with your suggestion. Setting up vpn looks quite complex, can you point me to instructions or a manual for your software? My first attempt hangs waiting for server. I may have found some. Nope, software to old.

Asus RT-AC68U router - USB ftp advice on security out of the box.

I am afraid my title is misleading. I am using your software and meant, using the controls available in that software. I would be accessing the USB from China and Mongolia over the next three months as an example, not within the LAN. Some of that time it will from my private LAN in China and a...

Asus RT-AC68U router - USB ftp advice on security out of the box.

I am using version 380.58_of the firmware for this router and wondering if it would be safe to set up an ftp server using the settings available in the router without further security measures. I read that no matter what precautions you take it will be insecure. That seems a shame given that...
