An Edgerouter X is switched. I have port eth0 as wan and ports eth1-4 added to switch0 on my ER-X. But perhaps you have another model of Edgerouter.

I'm playing with an Ubiquiti Edgerouter X and one POE access point now, my RT-AC87 is still on though. This router is not for everyone..

I think I remember the Synology having a feature of setting up the port forwarding for you in your router, mine did at least.

To reduce wear I think you should also use the option 'noatime' when mounting the USB stick. It disables writing last file access information.

I'm curious about this 'little router' project, is there a thread somewhere relating to it?

Is it perhaps a Kingston DTSE9 G2 USB3.0 (slim metal case)? I have one and it is dead slow writing to, and I'm not talking about it being connected to a router but directly to a computer! Have you tested more than one USB stick?

Adding and removing a device, changing static DHCP and device description seems to work ok on my RT-AC87U.

I'm not sure what has been the fix, but I have noticed that I sometimes have to click twice on links or wait (too long) to get to the referenced page. I was hoping this was a some bug being straightened out that resolves this behaviour. - Fixed DNS response error issue. (from Asus changelog)

Is the DNS response issue fix from 3.0.0.4.378.9529 included in this release?

I often get the feeling I have to click twice on links to web pages to get a decent response, one click sometimes takes a long time to work. Perhaps I'm just to much in a hurry..

So can you see any difference in DNS response with this firmware, does it give a snappier response or is the resolved issue just cosmetics?

I usually use the Wireless network setup method when connecting my Samsung printer to the wireless networks, it gives best control imo. Page 99-100 in the english user guide (depending on book revision of course).
