    RT-ac66u any point upgrading?

Feedback time for those who are interested :). Purchasing the RT-AC86u was a huge improvement for me over the AC66u. Shifting from RT-AC66u to RT-AC86u has doubled my wifi throughput – up and down. I tested locations before and after switching out the router. I didn't need extra range – just...

    R7800 SmallNetBuilder Review

Thanks dso much for that - it's a truly generous offer :). I'm set up now with the 86u and it's doing exactly what I need so I'll stick with it.

RT-AC86U (384.7.2) not acting as master browser

in windows you can go to file explorer and under my PC in the folder list create a new network location (not a network share under Network). Use the IP for your device (eg NAS) and have it added to your quicklinks as a shortcut. This was my workaround to losing the Network browsing capability of...

    R7800 SmallNetBuilder Review

I wanted to get the R7800 as it seems to be the best of the dual band routers; better even than the RT-AC86u which seems very popular. Unfortunately in Australia we can only buy the D7800 which is the neutered V/DSL version. Having just bought an RT-AC86u but not yet opened it, is there any...

    RT-ac66u any point upgrading?

Well I managed to get an Rt-AC86u for $349. It doesn't do 160MHz like the D7800 Netgear ($329 for me) but I am more familiar with the Asus firmware/merlin and it has solid reviews for achieving high throughput in moderately good locations. I don't think I made a poor choice :). I'm keen to see...

    Razer Debuts Gaming Router

Surprised there is no dedicated wifi channel for RGB control of your router, PC, IOT devices, street lamps and neighbours homes given the hard-on that exists over bling before function today.

    RT-ac66u any point upgrading?

Hi, I'm considering a new router for improved wifi throughput and after some advice as I do not know if my current notebook will benefit or if simple location changes may yield the gains I want. Also, having read the intel specs for wifi card and knowing the AC66u I'm still not certain if my...

[Resolved]Any real benefit to upgrading Jacks in Home install?

Well I received a bit of advice from a tech at Fluke who stated no benefit would be recognisable. Question answered :).

[Resolved]Any real benefit to upgrading Jacks in Home install?

Hi, have been looking for a practical response on this and not found much so decided to post a question. I'm knowledgeable about transmission lines / data comms etc but don't have significant practical regarding how robust LAN connections are. I have a home wired with CAT5e, and runs from 5e...

10 gb network (computer to computer), very slow (~4Gb iperf3, 50 MB SMB/CIFS).

A couple of things to check as this is a process I have been going through. (desktop to NAS connection) 1. disable or remove antivirus and firewall. I use bitdefender and it was blocking the iperf activity of my NAS. 2. connect both together with a patch cable and remove routers/switches etc...

    Worklog: Xeon-D 10 Bay (Hot-Swap) mITX NAS

My case is smaller than a rack case. I don't have the width or depth which is why I specifically went with an mITX case. THis is the only mITX case I know of that can hold this many drives (10 hot swap and a few internal if I really want to). Lian Li had one with 10 internal but that is no...

    Worklog: Xeon-D 10 Bay (Hot-Swap) mITX NAS

Hi, I don't post on here a lot but have been inhabiting the forum here a bit more. I thought I'd link up a worklog I have been writing up for a recent NAS I built. Still putting the webpage together so it's a bit basic at the moment.... www.quasinerdo.weebly.com My hardware was built around...

Replicating volume and choice of RAID

Meant to add.... If I go with option "A" - what is the best way to recreate my shares and files onto the new volume? Replication only appears to be offered between DS units. Manual share creation and file copy?

Replicating volume and choice of RAID

Hi, I am after some advice about choice of RAID or options with my Synology Diskstation to ensure decent redundancy /protection and future flexibility. My current config is at risk I think if a drive failure occurs, and also limits me for size options when I expand again. I currently have a...

Write Journaling - CPU or HDD limited?

Thanks. Good theory but not something I can do with this NAS :). Certainly food for thought for follow on purchase though. I'm not sure what file system X-Raid 2 is based on. It's using full write (write-back?) journaling though. What file systems have logical journaling? might be a...
