    D-Link DGS-1016C Switch

Thanks for the reply! Safety section? Who reads that? Haha! I guess I should have looked more closely. The h/w version is “B2” The image I posted is the model I bought which is the 1016C. 1016D has the 3 prong cord. I was going to go with the 1016D but came across some reviews where the...

    D-Link DGS-1016C Switch

Greetings everyone! It's been a long while since I've been around. I guess that means all has been well in terms of my networking setup/needs. 😁 I needed more ethernet connectivity in my media system stand so picked up a 16 port subject title gigabit switch, replacing a USB-powered D-Link 8...

    DS1515+ died. The next step?

Holy thread resurrection!!! So replacement DS1515+ died today. About 18 months since getting it as a replacement for the original unit that started this thread. Now that there is no warranty I have submitted a support ticket with Synology to see what they say about it. In the meantime I have...

ASUS RT-AC86U Dual Band AC2900 Wireless Router Reviewed

Best Buy (Canada) for $229 CDN. Thought that was a great (best? ;) ) buy considering the reviews it is currently getting.

ASUS RT-AC86U Dual Band AC2900 Wireless Router Reviewed

I just picked the AC86U up today on sale. I'm finally "upgrading" my 5 year old N66U which still works fine but the household demands are getting greater. Hopefully will get it up and running by the weekend. Results to follow. I wonder if there will ever be a chance to have the N66U support AiMesh?

    DS1515+ died. The next step?

Thanks for the reply! Good to know about the data not being lost. I posted this query in the Synology forum as well. A user advised me if I do get another DS1515+ as replacement to ensure the serial number starts with "172" or higher. He/she also thought DS1517+ *could* be offered as well...

    DS1515+ died. The next step?

I have a Synology DS1515+ that's been running flawlessly for almost 2 years. Suddenly & unexpectedly it died within a few days ago. It will not power on. With some searching on the interwebs I learned the problem could be either with the built-in PSU, or CPU, or the motherboard. Apparently there...

    Configuring New Router

I've decided to go ahead and replace my RT-N66U for an RT-AC3100. Reason being is I've upgraded my ISP plan to a higher speed (150Mbps) and recently got a new gaming laptop that supports AC Wi-Fi. Haven't actually bought the new router yet but it's on sale and last day for the discount is today...

    Thinking of Upgrading Router

I went into my local Staples to have a look at the AC87U that was on sale but it was no longer in stock. They did have the AC68U but it is H/W revision A2 which means the 800MHz processor. Sales dude pointed me to the AC3100 & AC5300 but I told him and I didn't want spend over $300 for a router...

    DS1515 vs DS1515+

I picked up the 1515+ many months ago. Upgraded the ram and swapped out the cooling fans for ultra-quiet and cooler Scythe Ninjas. Couldn't be happier with it.

    Thinking of Upgrading Router

Gotcha. I will look up the potential problems/setup issues specific to the AC87U and evaluate. I'm actually on the fence of buying immediately any way. The N66U has been decent but I'm not in a hurry to go "better" yet.

    Thinking of Upgrading Router

^ Since I'd still have my N66U (probably end up going into My Big Box of Computer Parts for in-case-of-emergency scenario) I could technically get the AC87U up to snuff before taking the old one offline. I have a couple of days to think about it before sale is over. Or just wait for a...

    Thinking of Upgrading Router

I can get the AC68U locally for 230 cdn or AC87U on sale for same price.

    Thinking of Upgrading Router

Okay, based on recommendations and using price as a factor the AC68U seems to be the upgrade I'd tend to go with. Going over $300 CDN (about $75 US right now ;)) just isn't justifiable for me. I'll have to check some B&M stores first since the revision number of the router now comes into play in...
