    So; I'm hesitant to call this issue resolved -- but I've pulled the USB out of the 3.0 socket and into the 2.0 socket. I had the USB 2.0 Mode for the 3.0 slot previously set, or at least, I believed I had. I've monitored it through the day and I'll keep an eye on it to see if the CPU spikes...
