    Modem -> Router -> Switch -> everything else. Is your modem a true modemmor is it a gateway? Set up a VPN and then when you access from away from home, it will be just like you are at home.

    You really should just extend network from your RT-AC88U.

    First, which device do you want to be the router? You can put the DLink in bridge mode if you want. Does your IP use PPPoE login and if so do you know it? You can also cascade but you really need to state your objective. If you just want wifi, that's easier.

    You can load Untangle on a Linksys WRT1900ACS. I have their u25w. I love Untangle.

    Untangle at Home Reviewed

    I installed a u25 at my home about a month ago after installing a u50 at one of my customers. They are great units with a ton of features. I opted to buy the license so I have all the features. I'm still experimenting though but I recommend.
