    Home network configuration (PFsense)

No, thanks. Feel free to offer support to pfSense users as well, or explain how bad it is... whatever you decide.

No problem, I'm not going to write here anymore. Sorry, @Discy for derailing your thread.

Upgraded to RT-AX88U from RT-AC68U: One Device Can't See SSID

Have you tried to delete the saved network on this laptop and re-connect again? Realtek is not exceptionally good with drivers, I've seen newer ones making things worse. Do some research.

How do you max out a Gigabit internet connection

I have 300Mbps ISP, rarely reaches 100Mbps with normal usage, some spikes here and there. Full speed only with downloads. I believe this is one of the reasons ISPs offer Gigabit service for not much more compared to 100Mbps service. They probably figured it out majority of customers paying for...

    Home network configuration (PFsense)

What's the point writing in this thread if you don't know the answer of this question? If you are trying to convince someone that ASUS router + Asuswrt-Merlin + Custom Scripts + USB stick + 2GB Swap File is the best thing in networking, then good. I believe most people got it already. Whoever is...

    Home network configuration (PFsense)

No one can give you a tutorial how to fine tune an entire OS. If you expect a quick 10-step setup deal that you can pass 1000 times after to others as a "knowledge", it's not going to happen here. There are 1000 different configurations to chose from. This "knowledge" works only when someone...

    Home network configuration (PFsense)

You already shared your experience with basic pfSense installation, all defaults, nothing changed, in this thread: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/pfsense-computer-bulid.61903/ Then 2 more people in the same thread proved you wrong with brand new pfSense installations. Why continue here? If...

    Home network configuration (PFsense)

Just type your question in Google and many sources pop-up. Much more than if you type something about Asuswrt-Merlin, actually. You don't need to set limits based on what's available in consumer routers. It's actually the opposite - with the hardware advancements in recent years consumer...

New wireless router for under £150 ($180)

I avoid to repeat someone else's beliefs in my recommendations. There is only a hope ASUS fixed something, switched components suppliers, optimized production process, does better quality control, etc. We'll find out if 2019/2020 production routers are more reliable in 2021/2022. This is why a...

Looking for the best option for a pre owned router

This is an assumption only not backed-up by any credible information source. All RT-AC86U units are the same HW version. Of course units manufactured in 2019/2020 have less failure reports, most are simply less than 1 year old. Do you have any failure rate data for 2021? Again, I would not...

    RT-AX88U Setup Help Please

Your options are limited there. Some RT-AX88U users report 2.4GHz signal level reduction with newer firmwares, actually. Stick to 20MHz channel, disable all Roaming Assistant, Airtime Fairness, MU-MIMO, Beamforming, TX Bursting... and hope for the best. In urban areas 2.4GHz band is usually...

New wireless router for under £150 ($180)

Not recommended for this specific model. There are many offered as used and re-manufactured with all kind of issues. New only and from a reputable seller with full ASUS warranty, otherwise I wouldn't recommend this model at all. For the same price I would get Netgear R7800, actually.

    New AiMesh Setup

No problem. It's always a good idea to have a spare RT-AC86U, you never know... :)

    New AiMesh Setup

You already know RT-AC86U has a good range. One more RT-AC86U sounds like a good fit.
