    Router for university dorm

At Best Buy here in Canada I don't see the 66 but the models are see are listed as AC1750(RT-AC65/CA) and AC1900(RT-AC67P). They specifically say to bring a wireless router and an ethernet cable. So they don't have WAPs, or perhaps not enough to provide a good signal in dorm rooms.

    Router for university dorm

I am helping a friend's daughter who is starting university in a month. She needs a router with wifi access - her room will have wired ethernet. Wireless clients will be a MacBook, iPhone and maybe one or two other devices. When I look at some of the routers they have six antennas, etc - but...

    VPN Client question

Thanks - is that because it doesn't have the CPU processing power? If so then I may have to fall back on port forwarding, but I was hoping that this would work.

    VPN Client question

I am not using a VPN provider since I am not using a VPN for the reasons that those providers exist, which is often to get around geographic IP blocking. I want to create my own WAN where I can set up a remote LAN and have full access to all of the devices on my home LAN. But that page you...

    VPN Client question

Until recently I was using an Asus RT-N66U running Merlin as my router. I have replaced this router with a Ubiquiti Unifi USG. I have OpenVPN server running on my USG router and I am able to connect to it from PC and iOS clients. I want to use my old Asus router running Merlin as a VPN...

    Opinions on EdgeRouter X?

What's the diff between the ERL3 and the X? The X has more ports and supposedly has 5Gbps ports vs 3Gbps ports on the ERL3. But the ERL3 seems better in other ways. edit - For that matter what's the diff between the USG, ERL3 and X?

    Opinions on EdgeRouter X?

I have been running Asus routers with Merlin for many years now but I am considering trying a Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X - they look like a good deal for $50. I have a bunch of Ubiquiti Unifi APs in my house and I run the Unifi Controller software on my unRAID server in a docker container. So the...

Feature request - DHCP reservations from csv file

And it looks like the actual data goes partially into the /etc/ethers file, for the MACs and IPs and then the hosts.dnsmasq file for the IPs and friendly names.

Feature request - DHCP reservations from csv file

@merlin - How does this look? Assuming that you have the new DHCP reservations in a file called dhcp_add.txt then shouldn't the following work? nvram get dhcp_staticlist | tr -d'\n' > dhcpnew.txt cat dhcp_add.txt >> dhcpnew.txt nvram set dhcp_staticlist="$(cat dhcpnew.txt)" I pipe the...

Feature request - DHCP reservations from csv file

What's the downside if you hose up the variable contents?

Feature request - DHCP reservations from csv file

Ok, I will give this a go then. It looks like the nvram setting that needs to change is dhcp_staticlist. What is the command to append something to nvram dhcp_setlist? Maybe the easiest way to do this is to generate the file in whatever means you would want (I would use excel), transfer it to...

Feature request - DHCP reservations from csv file

I just recently upgraded from a very old version of Merlin so I did a factory reset and started from scratch. This meant lots of typing. I am also trying to get my IP addresses a little more organized as I have lots of devices on my LAN - close to 100 devices. One thing that would be hugely...

State of the project - 2016 in review

Thanks for all of your work on this - I have been using Merlin on my RT-N66U for years and I just recently upgraded to the latest version.
