    Upgrading from NetGear WNR3500L question

So I should just go through all the existing 3500 screens and write down all the settings (blocked sites/services, schedules, port forwards, address reservations, etc) by hand and re-enter them into the 6400?

    Upgrading from NetGear WNR3500L question

What's the best course of action for doing this while I keep my 6400 running to maintain the household network? Can I just plug it into the existing network and access it to set it up while it's on my home network? *shrug* I guess I considered the r7000 to be more than I needed? SNB and...

    Upgrading from NetGear WNR3500L question

As stated in the title, I am upgrading from a NetGear WNR3500L to a NetGear R6400. I'm trying to think of the easiest way to set up the 6400 for my current network. Is it possible to load a WNR3500L configuration file into the R6400 and have it work? Thanks!

    TP-LINK Smart Switch questions...

Yes, mine does. Before I attached it to my network, I tried a direct connection between my computer and the TP-Link. I disconnected my computer from the router, so the router would not be handing out IP addresses. When I did that, the 192. address worked and I was able to access the web...

    TP-LINK Smart Switch questions...

I've used Netgear switches exclusively over the past decade, but decided to try out a TP-Link after hearing some positive things. I attached it to my network tonight and find I have some questions. Model: TL-SG105E I find it interesting that when I attached the smart switch to my network, my...

    Recommendations for NV+ replacement.

I am needing some advice and this looks like just the place for it. I'm asking for recommendations for a replacement NAS. I apologize in advance for the length of this post. I've been running my own (wired wherever possible) home network for nine years. For those nine years, I've been relying...

Why is my network going down?

Yeah, it's definitely the Blu Ray player. I'll try to get it to connect next.

Why is my network going down?

Okay, so it looks like if the switch is plugged in all by itself, the network stays up. Next I will try the Mac mini through the switch and then the Blu Ray all by itself. Right now, I'm willing to bet it's the Blu Ray player that's knocking the network out. If that's the case, is there any...

Why is my network going down?

The 2 items connected to that switch are a Mac mini and a Sony Blu Ray player. When I have the switch out of the loop, I plug the ethernet that normally feeds the switch directly into the Mac mini and leave the Blu Ray disconnected. I will try the switch with nothing connected tomorrow...

Why is my network going down?

Okay, so I bought a new switch. A NetGear GS105, ProSafe metal 5-port Gigabit switch. I plugged everything in and within 2 minutes, I had the same problem. The entire network went down. I unplug it, and the internet comes back. Any clues?

Why is my network going down?

No, just one long Cat 6 going to the GS605. In the past ( and right now ), when I run the network without it, I don't have the problems. I had been running without it for several weeks, then added it back into my network 2 days ago. And then tonight, the problem re-occurred.

Why is my network going down?

Here's my setup: Cable modem > NetGear WNR3500L router > NetGear GS108 (8 port gigaswitch) > NetGear GS605 (5 port gigaswitch) All my wiring is Cat6. One cable from router to GS108. GS108 feeds 3 computers and NAS. GS605 feeds a computer across the room and BluRay player. Randomly, I...

Correct way to use a router?

Thanks for the quick reply, although some of that went right over my head! :) Layers and vlans are beyond my scope of expertise. My network is pretty small, I think. It goes: ---[DSL]---[router]---[5 port switch] The switch feeds out to: 1- Computer 2- Computer 3- Computer 4-...

Correct way to use a router?

New member here. Looks like a nice place. :) I've had a home-based network for some time, and recent changes have me re-evaluating it. I think I may have made an incorrect assumption. Setup: DSL coming into the house. I set up the DSL Router as a bridge so my NetGear WNR3500L router would...
