Hello

1)
I have two asus router in aimesh mode (aimesh router running Merlin) . For the 2nd router (aimesh node) I would like to also install merlin but did not found how to proceed. When going to the administration I can only upload firmware for the aimesh router...not for the node...

2) for VPN Policy rules. I have set it up like this:

all VPN192.168.50.0/24VPN
PC192.168.50.128WAN

is their any "simple" way I could even go further down with wifi connection is going through VPN for the PC and network cable goes through WAN? That can be done only through "amtm" ? I am afraid I am not enough techy for that....no possibility to use MAC address for example instead of IP?

Thank you

To update an AiMesh node that is currently connected to your main router, go to the GUI, click on the firmware version at the top and select the node you want to upgrade.

ASUS Wireless Router RT-AX95Q - Firmware Upgrade
thank you but whatever I do this does not work...when I go to the GUI, select the node I have a small windows with URL http://192.168.50.84/AiMesh_Node_FirmwareUpgrade.asp opening and the error message

This site can’t be reached

192.168.50.84 refused to connect.

Try:
ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED

what can I do to upgrade this node with Merlin....?

If you go to your main routers GUI, click on AiMesh, click on the node, and then click on Management, it gives you the option to remove the node.

Does that work?

If it worked, you should be able to see the 'Asus something' SSID's when it has fully booted up (it should have been reset for you).

Can you connect now to that Wi-Fi network and browse to http://router.asus.com/Advanced_FirmwareUpgrade_Content.asp?

You'll be forced to do a few setup steps which won't matter, but it should take you to the firmware update page where you can do the upgrade from there.

After doing so, the router should come up with the new firmware installed. Pull the power plug from the router (not the wall AC) and wait a minute before you do the WPS reset method for your router to reset it on the new firmware.

Now, add it to the AiMesh network once more.

Hopefully, you won't need to do this again next time. :)

Look at the link above to determine what WPS method is required for your router.

My last issue....hopefully you will be able to get a solution...

In OpenVPN client settings when I set DNS set as Exclusive I am unable to access my router GUI (https://router.asus.com:8443/)

If I set it as Strict I can access the GUI.

The thing is that I want to enforce the DNS provided by my VPN. If I use Strict I see in https://ipleak.net/ that I do not have the DNS provided by my VPN....I have already entered the 2 DNS IPs I want in WAN/DNS1 and DNS2.

What can I do to use Exclusive and still be able to access my router GUI? Is there any place in the GUI I can enter this https://router.asus.com:8443/ to be still accessible ?

Thank you

Does using the IP address work?

no. Already tryied...https://router.asus.com:8443/ and 192.168.1.1:8443 both give me back a dns_probe_finished_nxdomain

No ways that I can think of.

FYI, I don't like using 'router.asus.com' to access any router. I much prefer to use the actual IP address I gave it. Makes me feel more secure and confident that I am connecting to where I think I am connecting.

The 'word address' is great to jump in and flash a brand-new router to the firmware I want with. On each subsequent login though, I prefer to explicitly state which router I'm going to work on. (On a brand-new router, there is no mistaking the 'Asus something' SSID's I'm connecting to).
