I saw this many times , often a gap of 10 days.
I have used AIProtection ever since I bought my AC3200 , now I have turned it all off.
The reported "attacks" are mostly FUD .
I never saw any lag with AI turned on , BUT , I have seen a good number of errors trying to connect to previously working websites.
One , a hotel website I was asked to help with some translation , I suddenly could not connect to. I got many different errors including " the page took to long to respond, and site redirected connection too many times ".
I thought they had a server problem till I tried accessing from a neighbours laptop. With AIProtection turned off I can connect , turn it on again and I can't connect.
Been monitoring this issue since your post. AiProtection recorded events for around 3 days and then went silent. After over one week, the router (AC86U on the latest firmware) updated its signature and rebooted. Then events were recorded for around 3 days again and went silent afterwards. Its been one and a half weeks since the last reboot.Anyone else notice a lapse in AiProtection activity from around 4/15 to 4/30? Seems odd that I have logged no activity for the last 15 days and then it suddenly starts up again... Malicious Sites Blocking and Vulnerability Protection/IPS.

You may be onto something here. @arthurlien is there a command on the stock firmware to verify that AiProtection is working as intended? Its very unusual to see no events being logged for over a week now.
DDOS protection and firewall are properly configured, therefore not concerned about the lack of event logs. Its the outbound malicious website protection for IoT and mobile devices from AiProtection that is the concern.
