802.1x - Clients authenticating every hour

So every hour clients connected to our AP (RT-AC3200) reauthenticate with the server. I was hoping that changing the NVRAM variable of wl[]_net_reauth=3600 to 28800 would change that behaviour but on testing it would just default back to 3600 again.

I understand that it might be ideal to have authentication occur every hour but in our case it is affecting VOIP, so is it possible to change this behaviour?
