86U in AP mode firmware update?

I have two 86U's. One in router mode and one in AP mode.

How important is it to keep the firmware (Merlin 384.9 on both) updated on the 86U that is in AP mode?

As important as it is to you to have a stable network, I would guess.

Easier to have them both on the same page if any issues arise, rather than trying to second guess what is interacting with what, between firmware versions.
