I have an AC86U and an AC68U setup for a vacation rental property halfway across the country from me. The AC86U is the main router and the AC68U acts as a repeater through a hidden guest network in a second unit. I have VPN access to the AC86U.
So far, the AC86U is flawless and internet is working on the property and for all devices connected to the AC86U. The AC68U keeps dropping it's internet connection intermittently. Before this month, this setup had been working flawlessly for about a year or so with no issues.
Software:
AC86U:
Merlin 385.16
AC68U:
ASUSWRT 385.20433
I have had my guests factory reset the 68u multiple times and finally upload latest firmware to the 68u.
Symptoms:
AC68U will drop it's internet connection but will still broadcast it's SSID. Switching to the 86u WIFI will still give client devices internet in the second unit.
A reboot of the 68u generally fixes the issue before it goes down again.
Can get access to the GUI through it's IP address immediately after booting, but it seems like the device loses it's IP address after that as I can't ping or login to the repeater through SSH. After I thought I fixed it and changed the hostname in the LAN menu to start configuring the router, I can't even get access to the GUI after boot now.
I see this in the AC86U's log:

So every 20 seconds it tries to initiate DHCP and I guess fails although the requests look pretty normal. This is the only device that does this across 25 devices on the network. It continues repeating until I get a message that br0 has dropped out of promiscuous mode.
So...my first question would be... is the issue with the 68u or the 86u? I'm thinking the 86U might be the issue now, but as I'm not on site resetting it would be difficult.
So far, the AC86U is flawless and internet is working on the property and for all devices connected to the AC86U. The AC68U keeps dropping it's internet connection intermittently. Before this month, this setup had been working flawlessly for about a year or so with no issues.
