AC68U Putting NVR on seperate VLAN?

Newbie here,

I'm looking to put my NVR on a seperate vlan while also being able to remotely access it via OpenVPN. Could anyone provide me with an idiot proof guide/steps on how to achieve this?

I'd guess that would work, but it's not something I've tried so I couldn't say for sure.

Statically assign the NVR with no or invalid gateway.
That will block its internet access but allow it to talk to device within the local network.
