AiMesh Display Bug – Nodes Not Showing or Offline Despite Full Functionality (New Setup)

Jarenback

New Around Here
Hi all,

I’m experiencing a strange issue with the Asus Router app and AiMesh display. I’ve recently set up a new AiMesh system and everything works perfectly in real life—devices connect, internet is stable, and there’s no drop in performance. However, in the Asus app:
  • Some AiMesh nodes are shown as offline
  • Many client devices are missing from the list
  • Optimization and connection indicators don’t reflect reality
Here’s my current setup (all on the latest firmware as of June 2025):

Main Router:

  • RT-AX59U (located in daughter’s room, acts as main AiMesh router

AiMesh Nodes:

  • RT-AX59U (Ethernet backhaul, placed in closet on ground floor)
  • RT-AX1800U (Ethernet, placed in storage room with HomePod mini and Matter devices)
  • RT-AX58U (WiFi uplink, placed in attic, connected to PoE switch with 2 Aqara G5 cameras.

Note:

  • All nodes except the attic one and the outdoor Lyra Mini are connected via Ethernet.
  • The system was freshly installed with reset routers, manually assigned static IPs, and clean AiMesh pairings.
Despite this clean setup, the app UI is incorrect and misleading. Is this a known issue? Any workaround or reason this happens?

Thanks in advance!
Jonas

Update:

The network is now experiencing instability — devices occasionally lose connection entirely and require manual reconnection to resume functioning. This affects both wired and wireless clients, even though everything appears to work correctly from a hardware perspective. Could this be caused by outdated firmware?

Should I update the firmware only on the main router, or all units (AiMesh nodes included)?

My current AiMesh system includes:

  • Main router: ASUS RT-AX59U (located in nursery, Ethernet backhaul active)
  • Nodes:
    • RT-AX59U (downstairs closet, Ethernet backhaul)
    • RT-AX68U
    • RT-AC68U WHITE (shed, Ethernet backhaul)
    • RT-AC66U B1 (to be replaced)
    • RT-AX58U (planned to replace RT-AC68U on attic)
    • RT-AX1800U (available, not placed yet)
    • AX57-Go (Wi-Fi only, not AiMesh yet)
    • Lyra Mini (Wi-Fi only, used in garden)

I’m trying to keep a balance between mesh coverage and avoiding signal overlap/interference, especially with multiple nodes connected via Ethernet. Any advice on firmware upgrade strategy or known issues with this kind of setup?

Likely just another wonky network map. Long standing issue with Asus routers/AiMesh nodes. Time may fix it then again it may not.

Yes.

Nodes too. Just use latest ASUS stock on these even if Merlin is available. No advantage in using Merlin unless you really want amtm and Addons on your nodes.

That seems like a lot of nodes. IIRC Asus recommend a maximum of five.
