Yeah, guess I should've stated that was the case for the US anyways. Would be nice to see that drop once ethernet is selected so the entire channel is available for devices.

I agree, doesn't make sense that if you are using an ethernet backhaul that you should need to have the wireless backhaul also connected.

Will always be on 5G-1 since dual band routers only have the lower band (5G-1) channels. That’s my understanding anyways.

Interesting, I was just looking at the asus.com/aimesh page and noticed this little blurb.

A rock-solid data 'backbone' connects all the AiMesh-enabled routers, with AiMesh intelligently choosing either a wired connection or the optimal frequency band — 5GHz or 2.4GHz. With tri-band routers, it will dedicate one of the two 5GHz bands to inter-router communications.​

Has anyone actually noticed Aimesh using a dedicated backhaul? I seem to have devices that connect to all 3 channels of the node.

With the Asus Router App, I'm also only seeing my wireless clients and NOT my wired clients. I just got the GT5300 and two AC86U's as nodes. Flashed firmware on ALL units and reset them. On the GT5300, I did the reset via the software right after the firmware update. On the AC86U's, I did it from the button. But, ALL is working and the setup was flalwless for AIMesh. Not sure why the iOS app does not show my wired clients though. I see them when I am logged into the router from the browser though. Any ideas - someone else reported the same earlier in the thread.

Based on user feedback from these various forum threads the client lists on the mobile apps and in the web UI pretty much suck at the moment. Although, the mobile apps seem to be slightly better than the web UI.

Then again, Velop nodes are a nightmare to get up and online and they go offline and simply take a tremendous amount of time/effort to bring online. Their speed is decent for WiFi. Netgear Orbi was pretty solid for setup and performance. But, it seemed like such a waste to turn off the wireless on the X6s to let Orbi or Velop handle the wireless. This way, with Aimesh, I'm still putting the main router through all its use. But, just not sure how good Aimesh is or will be. Speed is good for now - no better or worse then when Orbi was doing the WiFi and the X6s the routing. Plus, Orbi is expensive especially when you're using two Satellites. Now, I like that it's all one system doing the routing and WiFi. What would you folks do?

It really all depends on your needs. I was using Orbi prior to Aimesh and it worked fine for me as well. One of the main things I didn't like about Orbi is that it lacks features and doesn't give a ton of control over the setup. For instance, with Orbi you are required to use the same SSID for both 2.4 and 5Ghz bands and you can't disable any of the radios. So far for me, Aimesh has been really stable and I like the ability to have more control over the setup. Sure, Aimesh has some kinks to work out but all the systems do. I also like the features that an Asus main router gives me vs other brands.

I can only speak to Aimesh and Orbi but I don't think you can really go wrong with either, just depends on your needs.

Yah, for sure Orbi (and way less Velop) and especially when running them in AP mode like I was offer you very little by way of administering. And, I was reluctant to use Orbi as my main router though it's specs seem like it can handle a large household. I have a ton of stuff on the network (as a lot of people do nowadays) so a beefy router helps and you can't get any beefier than the ROG 5300 today. The only other one I've been tempted to try is the new XR500 from Netgear but then Aimesh is no longer an option so it would have to be with Orbi unless I do Netgear's X6 extenders with the XR500. But, I think I'll give Aimesh a whirl for the next 2 weeks at least seeing as I have 30 days to test drive these options.

I have the same as you can see on attached picture. 8 clients in the device list, but i have also 19 wired clients that are not in the list.
So the app i just showing wireless clients in the device list.

That's the same that I get just like in your pictures. The Circle/Wheel display shows the Wired and Wireless correctly but the Devices list, whether you choose ALL or Aimesh, shows only wireless clients.

RT-AC5300/GT-AC5300 are triband model. the wireless backhaul are 2G and 5G high band. According to the topology as daisy chain, we are still keep the 5G high band opened for next Node.

So in another thread, the owners one for the 5300, I've been told that replacing my wireless 86u Aimesh node with another GT5300 (basically triband) would give me the ethernet backhaul on this wireless node. I currently have a GT5300 with 1 wired 86u Aimesh node and a wireless 86u Aimesh node. It's the wireless one I'm looking to replace with another GT5300. That means then that the wireless 5300 would communicate to the wired router/5300 using backhaul and the wired 86u does not matter because it's wired and does not need or does not use a backhaul channel? Am I understanding this correctly and does anybody see the benefit of doing this? Thanks.

Here's what I see using the ASUS router app on my iPhone X. I see some wired and wireless but not everything which is connected.
