AiMesh to APs

Riverunner

New Around Here
I apologize for the newbie question but would appreciate some guidance. I currently have an RT-AC3100 as my main router and had set up 2 RT-AC1900’s in other parts of my house as AiMesh nodes. I have had a considerable number of difficulties getting things stable. For background, I had connected my first AC1900 node via Ethernet LAN-WAN port. I then connected the second AC1900 node via Ethernet (LAN 1st 1900-WAN 2nd 1900). The nodes show up on the network map but frequently go offline. I have 4 Nestcams and a 4 Sonos speakers none of which seem to like connecting or staying connected. I have specified channels for 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz as well as turned off “beaming forming” for both as instructed by ASUS tech support.
I am now at the point of wanting to abandon AiMesh and convert each of the AC1900’s to AP’s thinking that it could be more stable. (If I go that route - can I connected the AP points as I have above LAN Port AC3100 to the WAN port of first AC1900(AP1) and from one of it’s LAN ports to the WAN port of the second AC1900(AP2). Perhaps I have just done something fundamentally wrong and would appreciate advice. Thanks.

I don't know if you can daisy-chain APs like you can AiMesh nodes.

For AiMesh, I would focus on getting the first node to stay connected. If that node is not stable, there's no point in continuing to build out the network.

How far apart are the router and first node? If the wired backhaul/cable is faulty and the wireless backhaul is too far, then all would drop.

Did you set the node connection priority to wired/Ethernet? If Auto detection of backhaul type is not working through some switch, and the wireless backhaul is too far, then all would drop.

Did you reset all routers after updating firmware and before configuring the router/root node from scratch?

Sorry for the delayed response. I appreciate the advice. I reset all the nodes, set connection priority. At this point seems more stable. Still have some of my Nest cams dropping out, it would be great to be able to assign devices to a specific node. Thanks for the help OE!

Can you put a small switch at the first node
location and have two ac1900 nodes connect to the switch so that?

I'd suspect that should work. Be sure to set each node connection priority to wired/Ethernet.
