I bought a AC87U and installed the Merlin firmware so I could use it on my Sky fibre connection (after extracting my username/password via Wireshark) because my sky hub would lose its connection on a daily basis. Even though the router said it was still connected, I could not ping anything externally and my ‘Fing’ app said I wasn’t connected. Sky sent me a new hub and said the line had no faults. The new hub made no difference.
I didn’t replace the SR102 Sky Hub especially to improve the wireless range as I have 3 AP's using Devolo powerline adapters. I ended up with the AP's as our bungalow is long and all the internal walls are brick not stud partition walls.
Anyway...I was expecting to lose my AP’s after spending a good wedge on a router that review stated to have fantastic wireless range, the reality is that even though it seems to have solved my connection woes, it has no better coverage then my old Sky Hub that had tin foil for antennas.
I have them in a \\// formation. I have read today for a single floor that a |||| formation is better for 1 floor so I shall try that.
So I guess the question is, what gives with the Ausus wireless range? Can I improve it at all as its already at 100%
I can turn the wireless off as I have full coverage with all the AP’s like I did with the sky hub but it seems a waste of a great router to do this even though the wireless coverage is only for ipads/phones. The rest of my network is on Ethernet.
My network consist of (just in case it helps) of;
4 IP cams
1 Synology NAS
Sky Box
Xbox
Minix neo box
2 iphones
2 ipads
1 mac book
1 home theatre
1 PC
Thank you.
