ASUS BE92U slow NAT

jala

New Around Here
I just switched my AC88U for a BE92U, I have a fiber connection right on the WAN port, and have 1Gb up/down. This is also the speed I could measure when doing a speed test from the inside NAT on my AC88U.
Now with the new BE92U, I can measure 1 Gb when doing the speed test from the BE92U menu, but from the inside behind NAT i get maximum about 320 Mb.
I have switched of everything that could interfere, so no Trend, QoS or anything, still very slow. I tried both stock ASUS and Merlin 3006.102.5 firmware, exact same result.
Did I just buy a bad product? Will future firmware potentially adress this?

Factory reset the router (using the reset button on back)!
I can do 940/940 through my RT_BE92U (I also have a 1GBit/1Gbit fiber connection).

Are you testing over Wi-Fi or Ethernet?
Well, if the AC88U could do 1GBit, then it must have been over ethernet :)
But the RT-BE92U can actually do it over wifi.

I now tried to reset router with the reset button, and reconfigured, no joy. Still only 320 mb in the inside through NAT.
Which firmware are you using?

I'm on newest Merlin, but it also worked with stock.
When I copy files to my nas, I get 2.3 Gbit (250+ MB).
What cables are you using, old CAT 5? If that's the case, buy new CAT 7, they are not expensive any more.
Also try connecting internet to LAN 1 port (it should switch automatically).

On my local segment speed is fine.
Its my internet speed that’s slow 320 mb.
Should be in the 900 range with my 1 gb internet. Testing internet speed from router interface I do get the 1gb.
So something is slowing everything down passing from WAN through NAT to a local client

Ok, now it becomes a mystery. Are you sure you're actually connecting through ethernet (Windows can connect both wired and wireless at the same time). Disable wifi on pc.

This something may be a simple Bandwidth Limiter on a Guest Network.

Hello, I got similar problem. I Got 1Gbps internet. And From PC ( ethernet ) speed is full. But All my Wifi devices ( wifi 7,6e,6 ) only got a half speed or less.

Poul Bak - Can you reach full speedtest from Wifi Devices?

Thats because you are called HALF i ;) (couldn't resist)

Well about 900 MBit/s, but it TOTALLY depends on your setup - and it varies, how devices are placed in relation to the router, both distance and in particular obstacles like walls (6Ghz HATES walls). I can't do it all over the house.
My phone is Wifi 5, so no no.

I'm not Poul Bak, but I can give you my speed test results for comparison.

My internet connection is 750/50 and running SpeedTest.net on my phone, I was able to get a download speed of 681Mbps. (I ran the web version not the app).
My phone had a WiFi6 connection to my BE92U, I was not in the same room as the router, the router is behind the TV, separated from me by a wooden floor and my 2 kids were wasting their lives streaming rubbish when I ran the test, so peak speeds could be and have been higher.
I have some router features switched on, like AIProtection and QoS.
I'm connected directly to the router, with no mesh or repeaters setup. No MLO either.
My router is on version 3.0.0.6.102_38962, using the standard ASUS fw.

Silly questions:
- Are your external antennas screwed into the router properly?
- When you run the speed test on your device, are you selecting a nearby server?
- I think this was already asked, but is your phone performing the test on WiFi and not on the phone network?
- I think this was also asked or stated, but is your wireless device capable of more than 320Mbps?

I've never tried it, but I seem to remember reading somewhere in the past that if you're too close to a wifi router, there is a dip in speed. This was for distances less than 1m or so. If this is the case, try moving back a comfortable 3m or so away. 🤷‍♂️
