ASUS DDNS: How to 'reuse' existing Host Name

I's using ASUS's DDNS Server and recently changed my router. It seems that the "Host Name" is bound to the original router and hence fails to use the same Host Name. For now I've just created another Host Name (and all is fine) but is there a way to delete/release/reuse the original Host Name?

Either wait for it to expire (I think unused hosts expire after 30 days, but that's just hearsay), or clone your old router's MAC address.

Asus doesn't provide any mean to force expiration or reallocation of a DDNS hostname. AUthentication is based on the router's MAC AFAIK.

Hi,

Do you still have your old router? This is what i did - go back to your old router and register a different ddns name. The original name will then be released for use by your new router.

Thanks - I do have the old router (now an AP) but it would be PITA to put it back at the main router so I'll wait out the 30 days and see what happens!

Have you seen the old host got released? I guess I am having the same problem.

I just replaced my old linksys router with dd-wrt with RT-N66U with the latest firmware. The old one has DDNS enabled and update www and @ to namechap.

Now I am able to update a newly created subdomain but always got "bad request" message for www and @ ....

If waiting worked, I will not try to get my old one back to line. thx~~~
