Reading the forums / searching would save you waiting for an answer

1) Look here , a 3rd party fork of Merlin is already available for the 68U maybe ask the developer if he can help.

2) Merlin will not be supporting DSL models himself..

No, and it's unlikely to happen. The DSL-AC88U runs a different firmware from all other Asus devices, it's not the regular Asuswrt.
