ASUS RT-AC3100

I recently sold my ASUS RT-87U and purchased the RT-AC3100 for a VERY good deal. I am frustrated though there really isn't any 3rd party firmware available. Merlin has some packages he released but it seems no one is focusing on this router as a newer version was released, the AC-88U, leaving this router out in the cold.

Should I patiently wait for more firmware releases to come to fruition or dump it and go with something that more developers are working on? The router works fine, my only gripe is that I cannot increase the power output above factory levels to cover my large home which is in an isolated area.

Be patient these routers are new. That said the firmwares they have released work well so this may be the reason new releases are slower in coming. Also keep in mind the Chinese New Year lasted 2 weeks and just ended on that side of the world they have to recover from a major hang over and get back to work.

You may want to research and PM hggomes' firmware fork of the RMerlin firmware too.

Raising the power levels above the local limitations is illegal, and not supported. This is even less likely to be doable on this new generation of routers as the bootloader is now encrypted by Broadcom for this very reason.

Hggomes firmware has realy great wifi coverage even if you stay within legal tx power.
But i also live in isolated area, so i don't care of it is illegal.
