That explains the single Qualcomm reference I recently spotted in rc/Makefile.

CPU it's a MIPS32R2 / MIPS74K like you said before at 720MHZ, doesn't make it a high end device, it was expected Kernel version to be recent just like on other devices using Qualcomm Atheros CPUs.
