Asus RT-AC56U speed/high ping issues

Occasional Visitor
I have an Asus router with the latest Merlin firmware. However since last week my speed is very low (i have a contract for 200mbit/sec) and the ping is extremely high around 200ms.

I first thought i had a faulty cable modem provided by my ISP but after several tests am starting to think it's the router.

I have contacted the shop where i bought it and can return it so they will send me a new one. However before i do this i want to put the stock firmware on it and make sure there is no trace of the Merlin firmware.

Can someone explain to me step by step how i do this? Simply uploading stock firmware doesn't work it always goes back to the Merlin firmware. I am affraid that if they notice custom firmware (if they switch on the router and go to the web gui) they will try to void the warranty.

Thank you,

Steve

Just flashing the latest stock firmware is all that's needed. No special steps required.

Hi Merlin,

Thank you for the reply. Can you please provide me with the steps to do this or a link where i can find how to do this? So far what i've tried hasn't worked for some reason.

First, reboot your router with no USB disk plugged in, to ensure you have sufficient free RAM.

Then, download the latest firmware from Asus's support site.

Unzip, go to the Firmware Upgrade page, and flash the unzipped .TRX file.
