Like the most recent update for the RT-AC68U, I see that the lastest firmware is twice the size of the previous/earlier one. Would be interesting to find out [officially] what has changed to cause this. The MD5 hashes match for both the RT-AC66U_B1 and RT-AC68U (which makes sense from the Merlin Firmware standpoint since you use the RT-AC68U version of Merlin on your RT-AC66U_B1.

I also noticed that the updated firmware is available from the [Driver & Tools] tab but not the [BIOS & FIRMWARE] tab -- yet.

UPDATE:

2nd UPDATE:
Though the large 91MB may be largely empty padding at this point looks like Asus may have future plans to fill it?

Results with this firmware version are promising! On the beta firmware from February I had the AC66U_B1 as a root AiMesh router with two AC68U AiMesh nodes. One node was connected directly into a LAN port on the root and had a successful Ethernet backhaul. The other was connected through a pair of managed Netgear switches connected via fiber. The Ethernet backhaul would not connect but the WIFI backhaul did work. With the upgrade of the root and nodes to this firmware version both nodes accepted the connect via Ethernet first and the node connected through the managed switch pair now has Ethernet backhaul!
Am cross posting this to the AC68U new firmware post.

Just noticed something new. In Administration/Firmware Upgrade there is an Auto Firmware Upgrade slider. A choice to auto upgrade or not!

This is excellent. Hopefully coming to other router models.
And you can set the daily time (H+M) to check/upgrade!

I like that:

Traffic spikes in Traffic Monitor are still there, unfortunately. Got one 10min after installation with reset to defaults.
