ASUS RT-AC68U Device Priority

MrCanuck

New Around Here
Good day. I have a RT-AC68U and I would like to do the following...

I have my Roku streaming device hard wired into my Asus router (Ethernet). I also have multiple laptops and phones connected via WIFI.

My question is.... Can I set my Roku device (that is hardwired into the router) as the priority device for streaming?

The problem is that when everyone in my house is on their devices at once, it steals too much bandwidth from my Roku and my live streaming becomes choppy etc.

I would like to know if there is a way to give my Roku device more bandwidth so that the streaming quality is better.

Thanks.

What are your ISP provided speeds? Can you achieve those speeds with a wired client (Ookla speedtest, dslreports, etc.)? Are you using QoS? What firmware are you running, specifically?

Thank you for the reply.

ISP speeds are: 65.13Mbps Down & 10.69Mbps Up.

Not currently using QoS. Although I did before. However, it just lets me set priority for video/audio streaming, gaming, surfing etc. It does not allow me to set a specific device to prioritize for bandwidth.
When I am watching a live sporting event on my Roku device, my kids are also sometimes streaming with Netflix and I want to give my device priority bandwidth.

Firmware Version:3.0.0.4.380_3831

You may want to do a full reset to factory defaults and then minimally and manually configure the router to secure it and connect to your ISP.

After you have competed the above, try QoS again (download the manual for more details) where you can configure for specific devices.

You could try this now (without doing the link's suggested steps), but if you run into any issues, you won't know if it is because of starting from an unknown router status, or, if it really doesn't work. Far easier to reset and do it properly, once. ;)

Thanks for the reply. Not sure I want to get into messing around too much with custom router configuration (as I don't want to screw something up).
However, I did notice the "bandwidth limiter" option under QoS.
This allows me to set download and upload bandwidth cap limits for individual devices.
I'll try setting my kids laptops etc. to 5Mbps download and 1Mbps upload to see if that will leave my Roku device with more available bandwidth.
