Asus RT-AC68U downgrade firmware

New Around Here
Hi first time posting here. Thank you for any help in advance.

Can I just downgrade the latest firmware 3.0.0.4.380.4164 back to 3.0.0.4.380.3831 without any issues?

I updated the firmware yesterday and while checking things I notice the time and date was wrong. It was July 31, 2015. I rebooted the device and left it alone overnight and doesn't seem to be updating the time using the NTP information.

I have the router setup for wifi only and no DHCP. It is connected to my verizon router through LAN port.

Today I telnet into the device to manually set the time and it worked, but anytime i reboot the router it goes back to July 31st 2015.

I saw several post on this site about issues in general with the latest router firmware.

So thinking of going down to previous firmware that had no time issue or trying the Merlin firmware.

Have you logged into the router' gui and under "admin>system>miscellaneous" and set the time zone and time server?
Looking at my log when booting mine comes up with that or similar date at first and in the boot process acquires the correct date and time.

You need to do a factory reset and connect the router to the internet to get date and time set.

Just to update on this.
I loaded the Merlin Firmware and didn't fix the issue. What I notice was that I setup the router myself with some directions on some Verizon forums.
I set static ip and subnet mask. But I saw it had no gateway ip and no way to change it. So reset the router with Merlin and made sure to set it to Access Point mode and set the correct settings, including gateway. Now it works fine.
