Asus rt ac68u firmware update not showing.

I have a weird problem, I have the Asus rt ac68u router with firmware 3004374379 when newly connected
to the internet I get a msg. update available.
When I say yes install I see the update bar running from 0 to 100 percent, but after I reboot the unit
the old firmwarenumber is being displayed.
Also did a manual update for the latest Merlin Fw, same as above router goes thru the motion but
after re-boot the old fw still shown?
Any idea's / suggestions.

I think your firmware is too old to update directly to the current version. You need to manually download and flash this intermediate version first.

THANKS very much, first used the above fw, than went to install merlin 384,10.

Router now updated to the latetst firmware.
