Suggesting a factory reset is all well and good but this is my main router and a "ground zero" reconfig can take more than an hour. I know it's ill advised but has anyone recently uploaded a saved setting file over top with success? I'm going to the ASUS support site as well but with all the complexities of setup, multiple networks, ... it's time ASUS provide a method of data/config migration, especially when they suggest a hard reset. Just one man's opinion.

Agreed. Also, no one has pointed out the new password requirement and that to avoid problems one should change it before the firmware flash.

I've been a HUGE fan of ASUS routers for years because they did such a good job on the firmware (and Merlin of course). With the more recent history of firmware complexities/bugs in releases and pricing creep, that love affair is fading as time marches on.

I updated my nodes from the main router as the app wasn't showing the new file yet. They came back online with no issues, I did notice a decrease in speeds on WIFI so I just restarted the AI mesh and speeds are back to normal. Never had an issue with logging in...

How come you are putting the new technology(BE Class) behind the old technology(AX Class)? I would think there would be cheaper node solutions.

I believe @uwish know exactly what they are doing. This specific BE-Class (dual-band) is not much different than AX-Class they have for Router. Cheaper Node solutions either not run 3006 firmware, either belong to Smart Home Master series with no user VLAN support. Now the system runs 3006 firmware and has Nodes LAN ports VLAN options.

What is your current take on BE class and also regarding going forward with 3006 firmware/ and security wise? (is it prudent to move forward at this time?)

I can't comment on security. Secure enough for intended use, I guess. For AiMesh - you have to complete "Asus AiMesh Compatibility Academy". If you want full compatibility with VLAN support - all devices have to have user VLAN support. This means main router RT-BE86U or better with corresponding nodes. Exclude all 58U, 82U, 92U, etc. budget models - they belong to Smart Home Master series. They do have Guest Network Pro/Network support, but no VLAN to LAN port on nodes.

About AX-Class (Pro) to dual-band BE-Class upgrade - it doesn't make much sense since Wi-Fi has the same restrictions. On usual non-DFS range 80MHz wide channel AX can do >800Mbps, BE can do a bit over Gigabit. Possible reason for upgrade can be slightly updated hardware, faster Ethernet ports, expected longer support. You know though - if Ethernet infrastructure is available AiMesh is at the bottom of my shopping list... if present at all. There are better complete system upgrade options.

Single router upgrade with true Wi-Fi 7 capabilities and Asuswrt-Merlin support - RT-BE96U. And patience with 3006 firmware...

Just performed a "dirty" upgrade on my core router a GT-BE98 Pro of stock f/w to version 3.0.0.6.102_38984 via the Administration page in the router GUI. I also, at the same time, updated the BE86U node in my mesh network. I did change my router p/w to conform with the new standard prior to updating. I know Asus "strongly recommends" a factory reset after performing this update. Given that it would probably take me a few hours to get everything reconfigured, including all my mesh nodes, I decided to see what would happen if I did not factory reset. So far, anyway, at about an hour post-update, all is good, network is stable, mesh is working OK. If anything goes wonky, I'll go ahead and do the factory reset, but for now, all seems OK without it.

After performing a hard reset and setting everything up from scratch, I noticed a few errors in the new firmware:

- Download and upload speeds in the bandwidth monitor are not working correctly.

- Network map/client status - Data for newly connected and disconnected devices won't refresh.

Are you using this router as a small NAS server with attached drives?
I use many features on this router, including AICLOUD 2.0, VPN, OpenNAT, etc.
I think one of these options is causing these problems.

Then I did a factory reset and now it can't connect to the internet - I just get the "Your ISP's DHCP does not function properly"

Any ideas?
Have fiberoptic cable from house with a HUAWEI converter - LAN lights OK in both and in HUAWEI the PON light is green, meaning it should be OK.

Tested by directly connecting a laptop to Huawei that network immediately worked... So must be Asus router problem now...

Did a rollback to FW 37841 and still no Internet...
So what has broken and where?

Now I took the router to a friend's who has different ISP and the router immediately connected to the internet.
So back to study my ISP's problems

10h later everything works as should. Once I got back home with router all ISP's problems where solved...

What a job

Hi i did the same thing yesterday with the RT-BE86U update and had the same issue so this is not isp related its a bug in the new update. I waited left the router for 10 mins to keep trying to connect about 11 mins in it connected and logs shown dns was restarted by the router. My RT-BE86U router now working fine and i even tried a reboot and it connected right away. So for anyone trying to install this new update and then running a factory restore... after you add all your details if it dont connect right away just leave it ... it trys many times then will connect with your isp login and password. Ignore any logs that say your isp has an issue its wrong its the update thats abit bugged just leave it too do its thing after you installed new driver and set it up...

Also if you do install new update and its really not letting you connect, you can run a restore by downloading a restore file from your routers branded software page this will give you option to select an older driver and install it and have your router working again i tried it and it worked. But i did get latest driver working again after waiting and letting it do its own thing as ive said above

Yet if you download the update via the router itself it does not give you any info about doing a factory reset, all it does via router is downloads new driver and installs it. So always check your router url page for upto date info/advice.
