Asus RT-BE86U Moderate Nat

PixNme

New Around Here
I don’t know if I’ve done this right (new member long time lurker) but it is to do with the latest firmware, with my Rt-BE86U i have noticed since updating the firmware to the latest release i now get Moderate Nat in games like Call of Duty on my PS5 where as it was Open Nat before the update and this is with Upnp re enabled,it does show in the port forward section that supposedly the ports are being opened but still remains Moderate I’ve always bought Asus routers because they gave me Open Nat but even using the latest Merlin firmware doesn’t help sadly 😔

Moderate NAT is perfectly fine. What problem are you actually experiencing?

What is your current firmware version and what was the previous version?

Yeah Moderate NAT is fine but Open is better as your able to connect to more players meaning you find more games in general,I only bought the Asus router a few weeks ago as our ISP router gives Moderate NAT i could have saved some money if I knew the Asus router would suddenly change to Moderate Nat,I don’t know which firmware I was on previously I just know it was definitely giving Open Nat and now on firmware 3.0.0.6.102_38984 it doesn’t and as mentioned the latest Merlin firmware didn’t help,I know from past experience TP-Link routers give Open Nat but there lack of support after very short periods put me off I like Asus as they support there routers for many years and have free security.

i do realise it’s not a big issue i just would prefer it to be Open Nat like it was with every Asus router i have owned and was the case when i bought this router as i don’t really like having to faff about opening ports manually when it usually does it automatically,it’s weird as as mentioned it does show in Port forward section that the required Ports are supposedly being opened but according to the games they are not, would just be nice if it worked like it previously did before the update that’s all thanks for the reply👍

What is the likely scenario is that the new Asus firmware has disabled UPnP by default, as it is a possible security risk. The vast majority of routers have it enabled, but Asus and others have finally started having it disabled by default.

You can follow this guide to open the needed ports https://portforward.com/playstation-5/

Or, you can put the playstation into the DMZ.

Yeah i know the new firmware has disabled it by default but even turning it back on didn’t make it Open Nat again,i’m not keen on the idea of putting my PS5 in a DMZ myself my mate has his in one and has for severl years but i’m a bit warry,i know most routers have UPnP enabled by default but i find on most it doesn't seem to actually work,I was hoping that it may still work like previously on the Merlin firmware but sadly not thank you for the reply 👍
