I upgraded, then did a full factory reset then enabled MLO. All is working fine.

I wonder if Asus finally turned this into a stable router, it seems like the frequently returned notice on amazon is gone, but I still see negative reviews on it. I got rid of mine because of the issues I ran into, that I couldn't resolve with certain iOT devices on my network that had either never fully been resolved, or recently came up.

The router worked without a lot of issues most of the time I had it, but it never really felt fully polished, even though most of the issues expressed as a whole, I never had.

I never experienced a single issue on both of the two RT-BE92Us that I got, this was the cheapest and best upgrade I did and getting LAN like speeds wirelessly.
I haven't experienced a single issue with this firmware but neither did I have any issues earlier.

Here is how I set mine up:

I setup the main router first, never enabled AiProtection or QoS (and never will). During the initial setup phase, I also created the suggest IoT network, that's how my wireless printer connects for better compatibility. After setting up the initial connection, I turned on MLO then clicked on MLO Fronthaul as I didn't want to make a separate MLO network, I prefer simplicity, one SSDID for everything and one for IoT devices. So yes, SmartConnect is also enabled.

I then setup the built in VPN which is how my VoiP phone connects to the internet as IP Phones are banned in Dubai.
Finally, I went to AiMesh, settings, clicked on wired backhaul, then added the second router.

Not a single disconnection or issue and the speeds are insane.

In my case, every Asus router I've gotten has had issues out of the box with at least lights, or plugs. The RT-AX86U was worse, and then it got better over time as Asus matured the firmware. Initially I was an Airport user as I've primarily been an Apple use until the last few years where I've gotten more into Linux and other devices. I have been happier with TP-Link routers as an alternative to Airport since it was discontinued, but I want with Asus to try it, since it was the one brand I haven't tried, but in my setup, I think I'm sticking with TP-Link for a while. and keep the RT-AX86U as a backup router since it's stable.

Edit: By the way, when I first got the RT-BE92U. I was like you and defended it, thinking it was a good router, and really it is, as the initial issues I had I was able to fix. It was really after seeing how many people as a whole had issues with it, and then the issues that came up for me after having it for almost a year, that I wasn't able to resolve that encouraged me to look at a different model. I like to have at least two devices on hand in case of troubleshooting, and while I still have my 6th Gen Airport Extreme, and it still works, it's old enough now not to keep up with the current standards in terms of speed, and security. So, for my two device rule, I have the TP-Link BE9300, and the Asus RT-AX86U for routers, and for modems I have an Arris S33, and a Netgear CM3000 for troubleshooting.

Currently, I'm using the S33, and TP-Link, and things are stable.

I upgraded to the newest firmware as mentioned above. it worked for many hours (over 10 hrs) before the first crash. however, since that crash, I couldn't get back into settings page until full reset.
it was getting slower wifi speed than my older ax82u when it did worked.
I think I'm going back to wifi 6 until wifi 7 is more stable.

I have been running the latest 37563 firmware on my RT-BE92U for several days and it has been rock solid as has the last couple of updates. From all these reports of instability being reported left right and center i really think it's a specific setting or a combination of settings that some users are using that is resulting in this instability and is causing them grief whereas alot of other users who don't have these particular settings applied are having no issues whatsoever. I have AIProtection enabled also btw. Personally i feel this is just a matter of firmware maturity where these things will get fixed eventually with firmware updates rather then it actually being caused by hardware faults. What happened with me was somewhat opposite. I had initial issues with the defaults, and after changing settings + firmware updates things got better. Then the problem I wasn't able to solve with this router came up even after a hard reset, and latest firmware, I just couldn't resolve it. What I can tell you though, is the issue I was having seems to be related to Tri-Band routers vs Dual band. A dual band WiFi 6 router such as my RT-AX86U doesn't trigger the issue. Neither did the dual band WiFi 7 Router from TP-Link I tried. It was only when connecting to a Tri-Band Router with 6Ghz, even if 6Ghz was on or off, there just seems to be something different about how these routers process things that seem to trigger the issue with Alexa and my smart lights. The other thing I found out after getting the TP-Link BE9300, after getting rid of the RT-BE92U, was the issue wasn't as bad with the TP-Link, and changing one Alexa setting, seems to have fixed it. I also provided feedback in regards to out of all the different router brands I've tried in the process of finding a replacement after Apple discontinued their Airport line, Netgear was the worst, unless you replace their firmware on supported routers with something like DD-WRT, which I did for a while. Then I tried Asus, since I never had used one before, and the firmware reminded me of DD-WRT, which I do like. Initially Asus gave me quite a bit of frustration too when came to smart devices, but after time with the RT-AX86U, things matured. I only stopped using TP-Link for a while because of the rumored ban, which after a lot of talk, never seems to have come, so I got another one. As between TP-Link and the Airport, those were the two brands with the least issues, and now the RT-AX86U since it's older and has stabilized.

I think my setup is along the lines of your post though, I use a specific combination of devices / settings that isn't typical, and be more likely to bring out bugs / incompatibilities.

did you have a pw less than 7 characters? the new firmware's are enforcing a 7 character minimum, 1 cap, 1 special, and no repeats and wont let you in if you had one prior to the upgrade.

you can change it via ssh if its enabled on the lan instead of a reset (i loath setting everything back up again after a reset)

I hate when someone require 'special' characters in a password, it doesn't add security, it just annoys people.
Adding ONE extra letter to your password, on the other hand, will make the password 50 TIMES stronger.
 
There's a new firmware, not officially released on the website, but shows up on the app and web GUI check for udpates. Haha I took the old link for RT-AX5400 and substituted RT-BE92U and the firmware number with the new firmware number:


I'm not going to install it yet because the firmware updater on the app and web GUI do not currently work for it, and hope to help them verify it works when they possibly resolve it. From the web GUI...

Thanks for the notification. I just checked for updates through the web GUI and it found it. Updated just fine

Such a pain in the butt to login to the router now, I had to download and install a certificate

This must be in router mode? I am still able to log in to unsecured pages on the GT-BE98 Pro (on the latest) BUT in Access Point mode.

I have two BE92Us the first one is the main router and the other one is the Mesh.

Now router.asus.com doesn't work I have to connect using this address which I found through Settings > Administration after I installed the certificate

 
I'm afraid my GT-BE98 Pro is the primary, BUT I am hoping yours still has this setting and just switch it to BOTH [It is under Advanced Settings -> Administration -> System (tab)], Local Access Config should be towards the bottom. It may have defaulted to HTTPS, mine did not but just switch back to BOTH which works without certificate installation:

but mine already says both, I can only access it with that new IP address/port even after installing the certificate:

I even imported the certificate in Chrome but I still can't access router.asus.com

If I am an advanced user and can't figure this out, how is your average Joe gonna do that? ASUS are gonna bring a lot of headaches to their support team by doing this.
 
Hmmm. Do you know the router (LAN) IP address, typically 192.168.50.1 (for later models)?

Can you post a screenshot of what happens when you go to:

I'm not sure when but they may have changed to asusrouter.com
